REMINDER: Call for Proposals for a Special Issue of Management Science in Information Systems (due: July 1, 2010)

We are seeking proposals for a special issue of Management Science in the Information Systems Department.

Management Science is an elite scholarly journal that publishes scientific research into the practice of management (http://www.informs.org/Journal/ManSci). The Information Systems Department at Management Science seeks to publish groundbreaking and distinctive research that addresses the interplay between managerial decisions and information technologies and systems, including issues relating to the development, deployment and use of information technology, as well as the impact of information technology on the economy, industries, organizations, processes, and individuals.

The special issue in Information Systems at Management Science is intended to provide an important venue for collecting high quality research relating to information systems, and to stimulate submissions on emerging information systems topics or methodologies that would not normally have appeared in the Journal.
Individuals interested in proposing and co-editing a special issue of Management Science in Information Systems should submit a proposal that complies with the following requirements:

1. Proposals for a Special Issue must be submitted to the Information Systems Department co-editors (Lorin Hitt and Sandra Slaughter) for approval, no later than July 1, 2010. The IS Department co-editors will make a decision in consultation with the Journal’s Editor-in-Chief on whether to proceed with the proposed Special Issue in light of: a) whether the topic is congruent with the mission of the Journal and the Information Systems Department, in particular; b) whether the Journal’s editorial standards will be maintained; and c) whether the proposed topic would be judged to receive sufficient interest from the community and the editorial board to provide reviewing resources.

2. Proposals should describe the Special Issue topic, goals, sample research areas or questions, and should describe how the special issue relates to information systems and why a special issue is needed to attract research on this topic (i.e., why wouldn’t the Journal normally receive submissions on the proposed topic?)

3. Special Issues may have a single Special Issue editor or several co-editors. It is required that at least one of the co-editors of a Special Issue be either a current or past Associate Editor or Departmental Editor at Management Science, in good standing. Co-editors must demonstrate expertise in the topic area, methodology and problem domain of the proposed Special Issue. The publication record and editorial experience of the proposed Special Issue co-editors will be considered when evaluating proposals.

4. Proposals should describe the review process and approach for obtaining resources to review submitted manuscripts. In particular, if the proposal for the Special Issue is approved, the co-Editors for the Special Issue shall obtain agreement from individuals willing to help review papers submitted to the Special Issue. The names of these individuals must be submitted to the IS Department co-Editors for approval. The individuals will be informed of and agree to review for the Special Issue. The Call for Papers for the Special Issue can be made only after the IS Department co-Editors have given approval to the names of individuals who have agreed to assist with the Special Issue.

5. In order to avoid even the appearance of conflict of interest, any Special Issue editor or co-editor may not be an author or co-author on any submitted paper to the Special Issue. However, the co-editors may write a short article introducing the special issue.

Please send your proposal for a Special Issue no later than July 1, 2010, to the Management Science, Information Systems Department co-Editors:
