Handbook of Research on Pharmacoinformatics: Technologies, Theories and
Applications

*Editors: *
Dr. Tagelsir Mohamed Gasmelseid
King Faisal University, Saudi Arabia

*Call for Chapters: *
Proposals Submission Deadline: July 30, 2010

*Introduction
*Within the context of integrated health management domains,
pharmacoinformatics aims at maximizing the benefits from the use of
information systems and technologies for the provision of decision support
tools necessary for improved drug management, use and administration
practices. Such tools are also used to improve patients’ knowledge about
drugs administration and the consequences of adverse drug events. Emphasis
over years, continued to be made on computer-based manufacturing
applications in the field of drug analysis, testing and production. Little
efforts are being directed towards understanding the role of
pharmacoinformatics in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of health
authorities, pharmacists and other medical staff, patients and the community
at large to improve pharmaceutical care. The importance of understanding
these dimensions stems from the growing medical and clinical complexities on
the one hand, and the outstanding technological improvements witnessed in
many hospitals in response to the adoption of e-health paradigms including
the use of electronic medical records and integrated hospital management.

*Objective of the Book*
This book will aim to provide relevant theoretical frameworks and the latest
empirical research findings in the area. It will be written for
professionals who want to improve their understanding of the strategic role
of pharmacoinformatics in the improvement of functional processes and
improved awareness, attitudes and communication. The overall objective of
the proposed publication is to gather in an integrated pattern high quality
publications providing current, current edge and provocative scientific work
in the abovementioned three domains of pharmacoinformatics: decision making
domains, knowledge utilization and representation environment, and the
technological and infrastructural context.

*Target Audience*
The target audience of this book will be composed of professionals and
researchers working in many fields including medicine and health,
information and knowledge management, management, communication sciences,
administrative sciences, education, media, sociology, computer science, and
information technology. Moreover, the book will provide insights and support
executives concerned with the management of expertise, knowledge,
information and organizational development especially in hospital settings
and health planning authorities.

*Recommended topics* include, but are not limited to, the following:

*Pharmacy management, Reporting Systems & Applications:* topics related to
the context of pharmacy management, approaches, systems and applications
used for the identification and classification of medical errors and
preventable adverse events and drug interactions, information exchange among
medical staff and with patients, patients' perception and quality of
pharmaceutical care, computerized physician order entry, web based
pharmacoinformatics systems.

*Computing paradigms, architectures and standards:* topics related to
service oriented architectures, information and knowledge representation and
management, pharmaceutical applications of biological computing, health
informatics, bio informatics, molecular computing, bio-computing &
ubiquitous applications,

*Pharmacoinformatics infrastructure:* topics related to pharmacoinformatics
information infrastructure and high performance systems, business
intelligence and drug safety, peer-to-peer file sharing, semantic webs,
artificial neural networks, intelligent software agents and personal
digital assistants, communication mobile and technologies and handheld drug
reference guides, knowledge management, information retrieval systems and
information content optimization techniques, trans-dimensional Bayesian
model and pattern recognition systems, structured objects and vector
machines, automated visualization tools, relative reasoning rules and
biodegradation pathway prediction frameworks.

and dynamics simulation.

*Pharmacovigilance:* All aspects.

*Education and Capacity building.*

*Submission Procedure
*Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before July 30,
2010, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and
concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will
be notified by August 14, 2010 about the status of their proposals and sent
chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by October
15, 2010. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review
basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this
project.

*Publisher*
This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group
Inc.), publisher of the “Information Science Reference” (formerly Idea Group
Reference), “Medical Information Science Reference,” “Business Science
Reference,” and “Engineering Science Reference” imprints. For additional
