Tenure Track Position in
MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS
UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA LAS VEGAS
The Department of MIS at UNLV announces a full time tenure track position in
MIS for August 2011, targeted at the assistant or associate professor level.
The University
UNLV is Nevada's largest comprehensive, doctoral degree granting institution
with 28,000 students. It provides traditional and professional academic
programs for a diverse student body and encourages innovative and
interdisciplinary approaches to teaching, learning and scholarship. For more
information, see the UNLV World Wide Web site at: http://www.unlv.edu
<http://www.unlv.edu/> .
The Department of MIS
The Department has a strong research culture. Department members believe in
high quality research. They have published and are expected to publish
regularly in the highest quality IS journals. Research interests of current
members include areas, such as IS planning, requirements engineering, design
science research, human-computer interaction, IT success, cognitive
modeling, software metrics, multimedia, outsourcing and offshoring, and
software reuse.
Teaching in the department includes major and core courses at the
undergraduate and graduate level for BS, MBA, and MS in MIS programs.
The Community
Las Vegas is a culturally very diverse city of approximately 1.5 million
people. Besides being a popular place to visit, it is considered a very
attractive city in which to live, with many quiet, new, and beautifully
designed neighborhoods in both urban and suburban styles. It is surrounded
by a rich topographical tableau that includes, within an afternoon's drive,
the Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Hoover Dam, snow capped mountains, Zion
National Park, Disneyland, and many other things worth seeing and visiting.
Tijuana, Mexico, Napa Valley, Yosemite National Park, and the Rocky
Mountains lie within a day's drive. Las Vegas residents enjoy a modest cost
of living, when compared with those in major coastal cities. UNLV employees
enjoy a very low tax environment that includes no state or local income
taxes and no federal social security retirement taxes. The climate is
sub-tropical desert.
Application
To apply, please send a CV and cover letter only, as MS Word or PDF
attachments, by email to mis-dept at unlv.nevada.edu. There is no need to send
duplicate copies to individuals in the department or by postal mail and it
is not helpful to do so. Please defer sending or having sent letters of
recommendation, papers, or other materials at this time. These will be
requested separately later. The recruitment committee, chair, and other
members of the department would also be happy to discuss the position, the
department and other issues.
Initial Interviews
We will be attending the AMCIS conference in August 2010 to discuss this
opening with selected applicants. Selected applicants who are not attending
AMCIS will be interviewed shortly thereafter, likely through the use of
video conferencing technology; they will not be thereby disadvantaged.
The department's selection criteria include the proven ability to produce
and publish research at the highest level, the ability to contribute to the
diversity of the department's teaching capabilities, and the likelihood that
the candidate will become a good professional and academic colleague.
Currently the department is particularly in need of additional teaching
capacity in such areas as computer programming, networking, security, and
database.
