1. Next session: Wednesday 18 August 2010

"e-Marking tools and processes"

Dr Peter Evans (University of Southern Queensland) and developer of the
"eMarking Assistant" will explore ways to help teachers provide detailed,
useful and timely feedback on electronically submitted written assessments
such as essays and reports with the use e-marking tools.

It is acknowledged that while written student submissions are relatively
well served by electronic and online tools at the front end (e.g. drop boxes
for submission/return) and at the back end (gradebooks for recording and
processing marks), what is much less supported is the actual marking stage
in between.

In this session Peter will explore how processes relating to the actual
marking can be more fully supported with electronic tools. This includes how
a marker can provide feedback on the assignment itself - without the need to
print it! How a student can engage with formative feedback in a way that is
visible to the course leader. How quality assurance processes can be used to
monitor feedback provided to students and how feedback patterns can be
proactively identified which might trigger a course redesign.

Available e-marking tools will be discussed which will include a
demonstration of one such tool capable of supporting a teacher to provide in
situ electronic feedback and grading on the submitted assignment, which can
then be returned the student within the context of an e-document work flow.

Audience members are encouraged to participate and contribute.
