SAKM'2011 - Workshop on Behavioral Aspects of Situational Applications and Knowledge Mashups
+++  <http://www.wm-konferenz2011.org/sakm.html>

Workshop at the 6th Conference on Professional Knowledge Management (WM 2011),
21-23.2 2011, Innsbruck, Austria

+++DESCRIPTION

The workshop addresses the mutual influences of situational applications (SAs) and social processes in which knowledge workers develop and use SAs. Situated software, end-user computing, grassroots computing, (lightweight) composite applications, opportunistic software, situational software are all terms for the same type of software emphasizing the idea that software is designed in and for a particular social situation or context. The growing popularity of new Web technologies has made it easier to consume data feeds in ways that were never envisioned before; now, Web 2.0 technologies provide tools that let users combine subsets of functionality from different applications to build entirely new applications - Typically, mashups can be seen as SAs.
Whereas current research in this area has focused on design science approaches supporting knowledge workers with KM tools, infrastructures and systems, there is still little known about the (social) processes, potential conflicts, and governance of developing and using SAs. We thus invite submissions that test, extend, or even question current beliefs of the issues in this area. We particularly welcome empirical research, such as case studies that will provide further insights into the complex interplay between knowledge workers and SAs. This workshop welcomes both traditional as well as innovative methodologies and theories, including but not limited to social network analysis, ethnography, actor network theory, structuration theory or social shaping of technology.

+++TOPICS OF INTEREST

*	Re-using SAs
*	Case studies on developing and using SAs in organizations
*	Studies on adoption of SAs and mashups
*	Effects on routinisation and comfort while using SAs
*	Governance of SAs: models and frameworks
*	Politics, power and SAs
*	The important role that individuals play as users, designers and developers of SAs
*	The influence of culture on SAs
*	Understanding effects of SAs on organizational practices and knowledge-intensive business processes
*	Raising awareness in knowledge communities using SAs about social processes of designing, sharing and appropriating SAs
*	Exploring how social processes can be aligned with business and KM goals
*	Eliciting success factors and barriers to developing and (re-)using SAs.
*	Analyzing aspects of the interplay between SA and people from different theoretical perspectives, such as structuration theory, adaptive structuration theory (AST), actor network theory etc.
*	New and refined theoretical applications to further explore the mutual influences of SAs and social processes in knowledge work situations
