*Seed Research Grant Program, 2010-11*

Request for Proposals

The McDowell Research Center (MRC) at the University of North Carolina at
Greensboro (UNCG) invites proposals from outside the UNCG for *collaborative
* seed research grants relevant to its mission. Each grant award will fund
up to a maximum of $3,000 for salary support, expenses, or professional
development. A maximum of three awards will be made. *The deadline for
electronic submission is November 15, 2010*. This invitation is open to
only full time faculty members. Students are not eligible.

The primary objective of this program is to provide financial support to
faculty in the pursuit of grants from external funding agencies, *in
collaboration* with the McDowell Research Center. The MRC’s primary focus
is to study management, behavioral, and people issues in the implementation
of information technology (IT) in healthcare. We are interested in mission
related issues at all levels of analysis: individual, local, regional,
national, and international. Also of interest are IT issues in healthcare
offshoring. *The external grant proposal must be submitted by June 30, 2011*
.

The MRC wishes to be proactive in the development of such collaborative
proposals. Our preference is to become involved at the proposal development
stage rather than only evaluating the submitted proposals. Therefore, if
you have any ideas for possible grant applications and wish to pursue them
further, please contact Dr. Prashant Palvia, Director of the MRC. Applicants
who are unsure if their topic fits this call are encouraged to explore their
ideas and seek further direction from us in an effort to develop a
collaborative and fundable proposal.

Note that topics in “IT in Healthcare” include but are not limited to the
following:

   - Health IT Adoption
   - Implementation of electronic medical records (EMR)
   - Privacy and security of digital information
   - Quality assurance of electronic medical records
   - Electronic commerce applications
   - Business model redesign
   - Process reengineering
   - Metrics for effectiveness
   - Systems analysis and design issues
   - Role of IT in offshoring healthcare

   - Clinician-Patient interface issues
   - Decision support for clinicians
   - IT implementation issues for hospitals and clinics
   - IT implementation issues for physicians and staff

   - Role of IT in preventive care

based on the likelihood of securing external funding, the potential for
significant scholarly advances and relevance to MRC’s mission. Submission of
the proposal to an external funding agency is required. Each award will be
made in two equal installments: one after the acceptance of award terms and
one after the full grant proposal has been submitted to an external agency.
