User involvement in information systems (IS) development and
implementation is generally considered essential for a successful
development process and outcome. However, research on the impact of
user participation or involvement on system success has been mixed,
and there is no agreement on how to make user or other stakeholder
involvement as effective as possible. In addition, today IS
development environments (agile development methods, open source,
service-oriented architecture, etc.) are very different from the
environments in previous decades, perhaps making many common
assumptions on effective stakeholder involvement and user
participation obsolete. It has also been proposed that perhaps, rather
than looking at user participation or involvement in information
system development, it would be more useful to look at project
collaboration in the improvement of technology reliant work systems.

The objective of this mini-track is to provide a forum for scholars to
re-examine the theoretical and practical issues related to user
participation, stakeholder involvement, and project collaboration in
systems development in light of the changing environments.

Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

* User involvement in different project environments or development
settings

* Nature and style of effective user involvement under various
conditions

* Case studies of participation or collaboration in systems design and/
or implementation

* Social network analysis of participation during system design and/or
implementation

* User involvement in the design and/or implementation of websites
that use social media

* Project management strategies for user collaboration and/or
stakeholder involvement

* The developer viewpoint of user participation

* User Participation and data quality issues

* User participation as a way to accelerate user acceptance

* Stakeholder involvement and its relationship to operational issues
in IS projects

* User participation and its relationship to different political
environments

* The effect of user attitude during IS design and/or implementation

* Stakeholder involvement and its relationship to realistic user
expectations

* User participation and its relationship to budget and schedule
performance in IS projects

* Stakeholder involvement and its relationship to effective
relationship management

* Individual and organizational awareness of the need for user
involvement

* Procedural guidance on how to foster user participation or
collaboration

* Stakeholder involvement and the affect on productivity

* IS development participants and their use of formal modeling tools

* User participation techniques during the requirement elicitation
process
