[AISWorld] Virtual hardware

Many years ago, as part of our information systems curriculum, we used to
have a course related to hardware and software that was consistent with IS
97 curriculum guidelines. Back then, we also had some old computers that
students could open up and "play with" so they had at least a little bit of
hands on experience.

Flash forward to the current time. The old Hardware and Software course is
gone from the curriculum and the old computers are long gone. While I am
not aiming to make my students hardware experts, I would like them to have
some experience with hardware. So many of my students are just no longer
really familiar with graphics cards, sound cards, Ethernet cards, and the
like and thus I want to give them some exposure to this area. Thus I am
wondering if anyone knows of any software, web sites, etc. where students
can go to play with virtual computers and networking.

As usual, I will summarize and post responses to the list.

Thanks for any help.

Jerry
