Doctoral Summer School (DSS 2011) 
Theme: Managing Doctoral Research 
6-11 June 2011 
Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, India 
 
Dear Colleagues, 
 
Greetings from Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar (XIMB), India! 
 
We are organizing a Doctoral Summer School (DSS 2011) during 6-11 June 2011. The theme of DSS 2011 is 'Managing Doctoral Research'.  This  aims  to  develop  an  understanding  of  the  doctoral  research  process  in management  and  related  fields.  The participants of DSS 2011 are expected to benefit in the following ways: 
  - they will have a better understanding of the practice called research and the inherent uncertainties involved in it 
  - they will be able  to understand  the process of selecting  a broad research domain and  identifying  a research problem or issue  
  - they will have  an  understanding  of   research methodology and the factors influencing the choice of research method 
  - they will be better informed on how to document research   
  - they will be aware of the behavioural skills relevant for researchers 
 
Broad Topics to be covered in DSS 2011: 
  - Foundations of Inquiry  
  - Selection of Research Issues  
  - Forms and Methods of Inquiry 
  - Reporting on Inquiry  
  - Social and Institutional Environment of Research 
 
Target Audience: 
The participants should be research scholars enrolled  in a doctoral programme, or research-inclined  individuals who want  to pursue doctoral education in the near future. 
 
Registration: 
  - Please send an e-mail to the convenor (rahul<AT>ximb.ac.in) introducing yourself and providing a Statement of Learning Intention  (SLI) within  400-500 words.  The  SLIs  should  indicate what  you  intend  to  learn  in  this DSS  2011,  given  your background, previous  experiences,  and  interests. The  SLI  should  be  attached  to  the  email  as  a Word document  (.doc or  .docx).  The  SLIs  will  be  taken  into  consideration  to  ensure  a  good  fit  between  the  programme  objectives  and  the participants' learning intentions. 
  - On reviewing your SLI, the convenor will advise you about the programme's suitability given your learning needs  
  - On  receiving  confirmation  from  the  convenor,  please make  a  bank  draft  in  favour  of  "Xavier  Institute  of Management"  payable at Bhubaneswar, for the appropriate participation fee (INR 6,000 for full-time students and INR 12,000 for those in  employment).  The  fee  includes  lodging  and  boarding.  Foreign  participants  are  requested  to  contact  the  convenor  for  separate registration details.  
  - Please send a covering letter (and the payment) to the address given at the end. 
  - Cancellation  charge  (25%  of  the  fee) will  apply.  For  any  payment-related  queries,  please  contact Mr  Kishore  Pradhan,  Accounts Officer (kishore<AT>ximb.ac.in). 
 
Important Dates: 
  - Send your Statement of Learning Intention by: 30 March 2011 
  - You will receive enrollment notification by: 20 April 2011 
  - You should register latest by: 15 May 2011
