The Seventh Symposium on Statistical Challenges in Electronic Commerce Research (SCECR 2011)

Dates:

June 9 - June 10, 2011

Location:

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

CALL FOR PAPERS

We invite submissions to the Seventh Symposium on Statistical Challenges in Electronic Commerce Research (SCECR 2011) to be hosted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The symposium will take place on June 9th and 10th, 2011.

OBJECTIVE OF THE SYMPOSIUM

Electronic commerce is no longer just about eBay or amazon.com. As IT and internet technologies continue to transform traditional industries and society at large, the past few years have witnessed dramatic developments in a wide range of online markets such as lending, investing, hiring, and crowdsourcing. User-generated content, social networks and other exciting phenomena that have come to permeate these markets and the web in general, have attracted the attention of researchers in many disciplines, such as information systems, marketing, economics, statistics, and computer science.

The growth of these online platforms brings about unprecedented availability of extremely detailed archival data, and also allows large-scale field experiments. Researchers can now explore a large variety of research questions on different aspects of electronic markets, exploit the opportunity to test existing theories in various fields, and envision new theories for individuals, organizations and markets. Yet at the same time, large datasets also present many unique challenges that call for new research design, sampling, and statistical inference.

With this as the background, we invite authors to submit their work related to empirical studies of electronic commerce. Examples of topics include - but by no means limited to - user generated content, social and economic networks, click-stream data, digital media, reputation systems, and so on. Methodology-oriented papers, such as those addressing the unique benefits and challenges of large e-commerce datasets or new approaches to combining statistical analysis and qualitative methods such as ethnographic methods, are also welcome. Our goal is to create a cross-disciplinary community of researchers who share the interest in electronic commerce research.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Authors are invited to submit abstracts of their work (maximum 2 pages, including text, diagram, tables and references) for consideration. These abstracts should highlight the statistical and computational challenges that the research will identify and / or address. You may also include a link to more detailed descriptions of your research. Because this is a work-in-progress symposium, submissions will be evaluated based on their fit with the theme of the symposium as well as the potential of stimulating discussions.

Please make your submissions on EasyChair (a simple registration may be required if you have not used EasyChair before):
