Mapping the Future of Research in Information Systems

 

In the past few decades, the field of Information Systems (IS) has come a long way. IS researchers today are making valuable contributions not only to the conferences, workshops and journals devoted to the field but also to outlets meant for other disciplines such as economics, organizational behavior, operations management, marketing, strategy, and computer science. With the passage of time, the IS field has become vibrant and stable and is taking its rightful place beside other fields. However, one aspect of IS research has remained constant. IS research does not just examine past phenomena; it makes special attempts to discover tomorrow’s problems and opportunities. As IT-based innovations continue to shape strategies and business practices in virtually every industry or sector, opportunities to make forward looking contributions are also on the rise. 

 

CIST 2011 will celebrate this dynamism in our discipline. We invite original research in all areas of Information Systems and related fields that seek to map the future of IS research with novel ideas, methodologies and findings. The areas of interest include but are not limited to:

•        Human capital in IT management and effectiveness 

•        Organizational issues in IS management 

•        Business value of IT, IT productivity, macroeconomic impacts

•        Software standards competition and adoption, software innovation, and open source 

•        Electronic markets, selling and pricing mechanisms 

•        IT innovations in emerging countries, micropayments and microfinance, mobile commerce

•        IT innovations in healthcare, efficiency and productivity 

•        Business intelligence, data analytics and impact of customer knowledge on the value chain 

•        Grid and cloud computing, high availability systems 

•        Recommendation systems, search advertising, Web 2.0 marketing strategies 

•        User generated content, co-production, incentive issues 

•        Web 2.0, online communities, social networking and business implications 

•        Net neutrality 

•        Online Experimentations

•        Papers should follow the following guidelines: 

ü  Maximum of 15 pages (excluding tables and figures), printable on 8.5 x 11‐inch paper. Appendices may be posted on a personal webpage, and referred to in the manuscript. 

ü  12‐point font with one‐inch margins on four sides 

ü  Double‐spaced 

ü  Abstract - 150 words or less 

ü  Indicate on the front cover whether the bulk of the work was done by a student 

 

Awards 

Awards will be given for ‘Best Conference Paper’, ‘Best Student‐authored Paper’, and ‘Best Reviewer’.

Author notification: September 13, 2011

Based on policy set by INFORMS 2011 Charlotte conference 

All CIST participants are required to register for CIST and the INFORMS Annual Conference.
