Call for Student Participation
Overall
ER 2011 is pleased to invite applications for financial support for students and post-docs from US-based institutions to participate in the ER  2011 Conference to help cover the cost of travel and registration for the conference. The support is available from an NSF-funded student travel grant.  Eligible candidates are undergraduate, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers from US-based institutions who will present in the scientific program, workshops, panels, or poster sessions of ER 2011. Priority will be given to applicants from under-represented groups in science and engineering, including ethnic minorities, women, and individuals with disabilities.
Support Categories

 1.  Participants in the ER 2011 Doctoral Consortium

We will provide $1000 for each selected student who will also participate in the ER 2011 Doctoral Consortium. Proposals submitted to the Doctoral Consortium should follow the submission guideline posted in http://er2011.ulb.ac.be/call-phd-colloquium.

2.       Student Presenters in the Main Conference, Workshops, or Posters and Demos Session
We will provide $700 for each selected student or post-doc who presents a paper or a poster at ER 2011.
Preparing and Submitting an Application

To apply for this support, each applicant should submit a single PDF file consisting of:

 1.  A one-page statement of their research clearly specifying:
    *   Originality of the work with respect to current concepts and techniques
    *   Importance of the work with respect to fundamental issues and themes in ER
 2.  A CV
 3.  The abstract of the ER 2011 paper/poster that the applicant will present, if applicable.
Also required is:

 1.  A letter of recommendation from the student's primary advisor.  Advisors should be clear about the maturity of the student's research and its relevance to ER.

The materials (excluding the recommendation letter) should be sent (as a single PDF attachment) via e-mail by July 15th, 5:00 PM EST to the Travel Award Chair, prof. Min Song (min.song at njit.edu<mailto:min.song at njit.edu>).  The file should be named lastname_er.pdf, where lastname is the applicant's family name.

The advisor should send their letter via e-mail by July 15th, 5:00 PM EST to the Travel Award Chair (min.song at njit.edu<mailto:min.song at njit.edu>) with "reference for" followed by the applicant's family name in the e-mail subject line. Plain text or PDF recommendations are preferred.


Acceptance

Applicants will be notified of acceptance or rejection decisions on July 20th, or shortly after. Authors of accepted submissions will receive information about reimbursement details and other necessary information about the ER program. Note that successful applicants are expected to attend the full ER Conference.
