The Information Systems (IS) division of the School of Economic and
Business Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg
invites applications for available academic posts, which may be
full-time or major-time (70%) appointments.

The Information Systems division carries out research into the use,
development, management and impacts of information systems on
individuals, organisations and society. We have particular research
interests in information systems in service-oriented industries (such as
health and hospitality), information systems in public sector
organizations, ICT education, e-learning, IS ethics and IS project
management. Candidates with congruent research interests are encouraged
to apply. 

Our teaching programmes focus on developing IS professionals. We
emphasize a systems view of information systems and their impact on
individuals, organisations and society. We offer programmes from
undergraduate through to doctoral level that benefit from our research
interests in ICT education as well as close engagement with industry.
Candidates with strong industry relationships and experience of engaging
industry professionals in education programmes are encouraged to apply. 

The appointments will be made at the level of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer
or Associate Professor, depending on the qualifications and experience
of candidates.

For appointment at Lecturer level the candidate must have a relevant
Master's degree and experience in university teaching. A relevant PhD,
research publications and/or professional experience will be an
advantage. 

For appointment at Senior Lecturer level the candidate must have a
relevant Doctoral degree, a record of research publications and at least
three years experience of university-level teaching. Experience in
university administration, postgraduate supervision and/or the ICT
profession will be an advantage. 

For appointment at Associate Professor level the candidate must have a
relevant Doctoral degree, a record of research publications, at least
six years of university-level teaching experience, including
postgraduate supervision, experience of university administration and be
able to provide academic leadership. Research publications in major
scholarly journals and professional experience will be an advantage. 

 

All academic staff members are expected to do research, to teach at
undergraduate and postgraduate levels, contribute to curriculum
development, take up administrative duties including serving on
committees, foster collegiality, support students and otherwise
contribute to the welfare of the university community. Visit the
