Theme: Interpretive Information Systems Research in China

Meeting Chairs: Robert M. Davison, City University of Hong Kong & Allen S. Lee, Virginia Commonwealth University

There is currently little, if any, interpretive information systems research being conducted in China. Interpretive research offers many benefits. It can complement and even strengthen positivist research. For real-world practice, it can reveal the story behind both successful and failed information-systems implementations. Robert Davison and Allen S. Lee will be conducting a tutorial on interpretive research, which is open to all information systems scholars, including master’s and doctoral students.

In addition to the tutorial, paper and panels are also welcome. Papers and panel proposals may be submitted on any aspects of interpretive research, with preference being given to the following topics:

o	interpretive research with a cross-cultural theme in real-world contexts
o	action research with a focus on information systems in the Chinese context
o	hermeneutic research with a focus on information systems in the Chinese context
o	ethnographic research with a focus on information systems in the Chinese context

At this stage, we invite scholars who are interested in either submitting a paper or a panel proposal or in attending this workshop to contact the workshop organisers. The deadline for submitting a paper/panel proposal will be September 15th. No deadlines will be extended.

Submissions should be directed to Robert Davison. Authors of accepted papers will be informed by November 15th. While there are no length or formatting requirements or restrictions for paper submissions, presentations will be limited to 30 minutes so as to allow ample time for discussion. Panel submissions should include a brief summary of the focus of the panel and a list of the proposed panelists.
Papers presented at the workshop will not be published.

We look forward to your active engagement in these important topics at the SIG-CCRIS pre-ICIS meeting in Shanghai.
