Call for chapters
We would like to ask for your contribution to the Springer book, entitled:
Designing Supply Chains in Emerging Economies; Lessons from four continents
The book is edited by Dr Wojciech Piotrowicz and Dr Richard Cuthbertson, both from Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
The aim of this book is to present and analyse supply chain development in Emerging Economies. The majority of textbooks and case studies in this area concentrate on developed countries, while the centre of economic activity is moving eastwards. On a global scale, manufacturing is already more likely to be located in Asia, or South America. In Europe, the post-Communist countries are attracting investors. New markets attract producers and retailers from developed countries. However, emerging economies are facing various problems, such as poor infrastructure, skills shortages, unclear legal frameworks, lack of planning, protectionism, just to name a few of them. Such issues, together with cultural, geographical and language differences, create new challenges for both: managers from the developed world who want to enter new markets, and for local managers and policymakers who want to be connected into the global supply chain network.
In this book, we would like to capture: national and regional analysis, comparative studies, case studies (success and failure stories) to demonstrate how countries are overcoming problems and how they are designing their supply chains. We would like to look how local manufacturers, service providers, and consumers are linked to the global supply network; creating value not only for consumers in the West, but also locally, to demonstrate how supply chain development can stimulate local growth and socio-economic changes.
The book is focused on supply chain developments in emerging economies from: Africa, Asia, Eastern and Central Europe, South America and Oceania. Please note that this does not include humanitarian logistics.
We are looking for local views, from the emerging economies, as well as for views from outsiders working within developing markets. Chapters can be written by academics (all disciplines) or practitioners.
The topics may cover a wide variety of issues related to supply chain development in emerging economies, for example:

- Supply chain development in national and regional context

- Barriers and drivers in supply chain development

- Supply chain infrastructure shortage and infrastructure development

- Role of Information Systems and Information Technology in supply chains

- Supply chain skills, knowledge and education

- Role of manufacturers, retailers and logistics providers in supply chain development

- National and regional planning for supply chains (private or public sector)

- Role and impact of regional and international institutions

- Role of SME’s and logistics service providers

- Performance measurement and development indicators

- Risk and risk management

- Outsourcing and off shoring

- Sustainability, green and socially responsible supply chain
