<<Description of the project>>
This project is supervised by Prof. Albert Boonstra and Dr Chee Wee Tan,
who participate in the research programme Innovation & Organisation
[http://www.rug.nl/som/researchprogrammes/innovationorganization/index]
and TNO as well.
One of the most potentially disruptive technological advancements is the
way that the Internet and social media are being used by consumers to
create new forms of empowerment and mobilization. These innovations
allow for the rapid emergence of self-organising entities, consumer
groups, social movements or new businesses. For this reason, an
investigation into how disruptive internet technologies and applications
shape market interactions both now and into the future is a timely and
worthwhile venture. Not only will the investigation contribute to an
in-depth appreciation of the nature and impact of disruptive internet
technologies and applications, it will also inform companies on how to
manage the changes for the extraction of strategic benefits. The
candidate will therefore be working on a project that endeavors to
explain the impact of disruptive web-based innovations on firms'
interactions with the market environment and offer advice on how such
innovations can be managed in a beneficial fashion.
