applications for a PhD position.

Title :
Dynamic Software Product Lines based on Service-Oriented Architectures

Description:
Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA) and Software Product Lines (SPL) 
are approaches to software development that both encourage reuse of 
existing assets and capabilities rather than repeatedly redeveloping 
them for new systems. These two approaches tend to be used in the 
context of pervasive applications. The intent is that organisations can 
capitalise on reuse to achieve desired benefits such as productivity 
gains, decreased development costs, improved time to market, and higher 
reliability. However, when SOA are supposed to enable assembly, 
orchestration and maintenance of enterprise solutions to quickly react 
to changing business requirements, SPLs aim at systematically capturing 
and exploiting commonality among a set of related systems while managing 
variations for specific customers or market segments. The ever growing 
use of Model Driven Engineering (MDE) now makes it possible to handle 
such large and complex software constructions at a higher level of 
abstraction, so that large scale software manipulations, such as product 
derivations or system configurations can be automatically generated from 
high level models. To cope with the constantly evolving environment 
inherent to pervasive applications, these models will be kept at runtime 
to support the continuous adaptation process. This work will investigate 
innovative solutions to bridge the gap between SOA and SPL through the 
use of MDE to produce self-adaptive pervasive applications.

Working Environment :
The postdoc candidate will work at INRIA in the TRISKELL team. INRIA is 
the French national institute for research in computer science. There 
are 8 INRIA research centres located throughout France, hosting more 
than 200 research teams. The TRISKELL team is located in Rennes. 
TRISKELL's research is in the area of software engineering, focusing on 
model-driven engineering and software testing. The team is actively 
involved in multiple European, French and industrial projects and is 
composed of 7 faculty members, 20 PhD students and 4 engineers.

The position is already open and applications will be reviewed until the 
position is filled (Deadline for position starting : 02/2012).
Approximate Salary : 1900EUR/month net+ extra
