The Ph.D. in Management Program offered through the College of Business
and Behavioral Science at Clemson University in South Carolina is
currently accepting applications from prospective students for admission
to the Fall of 2010 semester. The Ph.D. in Management program prepares
students interested in the Information Systems (IS) field for
research focused academic careers. The program offers full tuition in
conjunction with an assistantship to cover living expenses. Admitted
students have been successful in receiving additional money through
competitive university-wide
fellowships. The program offers world class
faculty, a strong research orientation, a flexible curriculum, numerous
field-based doctoral seminars, strong methodological training,
personalized attention, and outstanding facilities in a
beautiful
college-town setting with nearby mountains and lakes.

The IS faculty within the Department of Management at Clemson University
are known for conducting leading research in numerous areas in the field,
including: business process change, e-business initiatives, strategic
information systems, human computer interactions, inter-organizational
information systems, IT adoption/use/impacts, IT-driven changes in
organizations, project management, and supply chain systems, among others.
The IS faculty also hold numerous editorial positions, including senior
editorship positions in top journals like MIS Quarterly and the Journal of
the Association for Information Systems. A recent analysis of 610
different institutions covering 48 countries, 3404 authors, and 5515
author appearances, finds Clemson University's IS program ranked first
among institutions' whose doctoral student publish in the 6 leading
IS
journals, in line with or ahead of universities like? the University of
British Columbia, University of Minnesota, University of Arizona, and
Indiana University among others. This analysis covers the 5 year period
from 2003 to 2007. Clemson University ranks among the top 10 universities
in the world, based on the top 6 IS journals, with the William Lee
Distinguished Chair, ranked 4th in the world among 3404 researchers. Visit
http://aisel.aisnet.org/cais/vol24/iss1/14/ for further details specific
to this study.

Clemson University is ranked 22nd among public universities in the 2009 US
New and World Report. It is a highly selective, public, land-grant
university in a college-town setting along a dynamic Southeastern
corridor, and against a beautiful backdrop of lakes and mountains. While
enjoying the benefits of a small college town,
many faculty enjoy
opportunities afforded by a 30 minute commute from Greenville, South
Carolina (a thriving mid-sized city with a strong industrial base, home to
BMW and Michelin) and a 1 hour and 45 minute commute from Atlanta,
Georgia. Clemson is committed to world-class teaching, research, and
public service, and continues to attract some of the country's best
students. The 17,000 students represent a diverse and capable student body
that can select from over 70 undergraduate and 100 graduate degree
programs offered by Clemson's 5 colleges. Clemson's business program has
reached top-20 status, according to Business Week magazine's ranking
(Spring 2007) of "The Best Undergraduate Business Schools." Clemson's
undergraduate business program is 19th among the public, doctoral-granting
schools on the list, and 45th on the magazine's comprehensive list of
public and private institutions.

For Fall 2010
admissions, priority will be given to applications completed
by the January 15th, 2010 deadline, with applications considered on a
limited basis after this date. Additional information about the Department
of Management's doctoral program and the IS track can be found at:
http://media.clemson.edu/cbbs/management/Clemson-PhD-Management.pdf. The online
application to the Graduate School at Clemson University is available at:

Greetings: You are being invited to participate in a multi-national survey seeking to collect perspectives on computer use ethics among current college students. We are actively seeking faculty members at institutions outside the United States to administer the instrument to their classes.

The study is designed to explore attitudes toward a variety of ethical situations. The online survey includes a series of questions asking the participant?s opinion about one or more aspects of computing ethics. The study is open to participants that are at least eighteen years of age and consent to participate in the study under the terms and conditions explained in the survey. The survey will take most respondents between 30 ? 45 minutes to complete.

If you would volunteer to participate by having your class take the survey, we would be pleased to provide you with a personalized copy of the results comparing your class to the rest of the respondents. If you are willing to participate, please send your name, institution and country in an email to infosec at kennesaw.edu . Please caption your email with the subject line: Ethics Survey.

You will then receive a customized Web-link to the online survey which you can distribute to your class. The link will be valid for 30 days from the date you receive it. Once data collection is complete, we will create a summary version to email back to you, which you can share with your class.

You may contact us at the above email address if you have any questions. If you would like the survey to be translated into a language other than English, please let us know the target language and we will draft a version for your review.

Thank you for your consideration.

18th Americas Conference on Information Systems
Seattle, Washington August 9-12, 2012

Track: Green IS: Building Research Programs and Designing Curricula (SIGGREEN)

Minitrack: IS Enabled Eco-Collaboration

Description:

Climate change is a rapidly manifesting phenomenon necessitating collaboration among a wide-spectrum of stakeholders often dispersed across vast geographical, political, economical, technological, cultural, and linguistic boundaries and jurisdictions. Collaborative technologies such as online social media, web-based conferencing tools, and blogging fora stand to play a pivotal role in bringing environmental stakeholders together and mobilising them towards joint glocalised ecological action. Here, the term eco-collaboration is broadly defined to encompass collaboration towards sustaining both natural and human ecology, mutually susceptible to the threats of global warming. This includes IS mediated collaborations aimed at reducing the emission of greenhouse gases, the preservation of natural habitat, and the development of sustainable practices, among others.

Suggested Topics:

We invite researchers to submit original manuscripts that address this important area, which is of growing relevance to IS researchers, environmental stakeholders, and policy makers. Possible topics must address the roles that collaborative technologies play, or stand to play, in eco-collaboration and could include:

? IS enabled eco-collaboration among a wide-spectrum of stakeholders.
? Community based ecological endeavours mediated by collaborative media.
? Cross-cultural, social, and/or global aspect of eco-collaboration and the role of collaborative media.
? Intra-organisational eco-collaboration involving multiple departments.
? Extra-organisational eco-collaboration with the organisation performing a leading role in mobilising stakeholders.
? Inter-organisational eco-collaboration between private firms, Non-Governmental or Not for Profit Organisations (NGOs), and/or governmental institutions.
? Eco-mobilisation of stakeholders towards taking concerted and coordinated environmental action, for instance through conservation work or political lobbying.
? Diffusion and utilisation of collaborative technologies among environmental stakeholders.
? Policy development and/or critique of the roles of collaborative technologies in eco-collaboration at local, regional, or global levels.
? Opportunities and limitations of collaborative technologies in mediating ecological mobilisation.
? Multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, or transdiciplinary studies encompassing the roles of collaborative technologies in eco-collaboration and eco-mobilisation.

Other manuscripts that broadly address this research area are also encouraged. We also encourage original papers from all research paradigms and methodological approaches including positivist, interpretivist, and critical empirical studies.

AMCIS 2012 will begin accepting manuscript submissions on January 3, 2012.

Deadline for submissions is March 1, 2012.

To submit a paper, please follow the directions below:

Submit the manuscript using the AMCIS2012 Paper Template.
Submit your paper after January 3, 2012 using the Manuscript Central Submission Site at : http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/amcis2012, but no later than midnight PST on March 1, 2012.

Papers will be peer-reviewed using a double-blind system.

Minitrack: DATA AND INFORMATION QUALITY IN DECISION MAKING

August 9-12, 2012, Seattle, Washington
http://amcis2012.aisnet.org/

================================================================

--- DESCRIPTION ---
Models of decision making, mainly normative models of decision making, point to
the critical role of information in this process. This mini-track centers on the
relationship between the quality of the information that is employed in the
decision-making process on one hand, and, on the other hand, the product of the
decision, other aspects of the decision process, the consequences of the
decision, and/or its value. The ultimate goal of this research is to produce
solutions that bring under control and mitigate the negative effects of poor
information quality, i.e., improve decisions both subjectively and objectively.

Papers in this minitrack will aim to:
- Extend the existing understanding of the above relationships in a chosen
setting
- Propose a new artifact(s) (e.g., a concept, model, method, system
implementation) that promises a new solution
- Examine the value of a previously proposed artifact
- Refine a previously proposed artifact

We welcome original research papers regardless of decision domain, decision
process, or research methodology. Since related problems have been studied in
numerous problem domains and diverse scientific disciplines, we encourage
authors to explore this rich literature and benefit from it.

Minitrack: DATA AND INFORMATION QUALITY OF UNSTRUCTURED DATA

August 9-12, 2012, Seattle, Washington
http://amcis2012.aisnet.org/

===========================================================

--- DESCRIPTION ---
Unstructured data include free-form text such as found in word processing documents, e-mail, Web pages, spreadsheets, and text files, as well as nontextual data?images, sound, video, and graphics. Estimates of the proportion of unstructured data in organizations are staggering?analysts estimate that 80 percent of the data are unstructured. Analysts have also observed that the major drivers for unstructured data growth are Microsoft Office, email attachments, and backup and archival, as well as the generation of multiple and distributed copies of data. In particular, the Web is a primary unstructured information source for nearly every knowledge worker. Evidently, organizations that rely solely on structured, record-oriented data have incomplete information.

In recent years, there is a growing interest in accessing unstructured data and utilizing them, often together with structured data. Applications vary from counter-terrorism and biomedical information extraction to business intelligence, customer relationship management, and more. Although they have enormous potential for improving the completeness of information in particular and its quality in general, unstructured data introduce numerous new challenges for data and information quality research.

We welcome papers that address technical, managerial, and/or societal data quality challenges or solutions for fulfilling the potential of unstructured data. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following list:

-- Data quality on the Web
-- Business intelligence with structured and unstructured data
-- Social aspects of data quality
-- Integration of structured and unstructured data
-- Reconciliation of comparable sources
-- Scalability and scalable solutions
-- Reusing and repurposing unstructured data
-- Governance of unstructured data
-- Cost and benefit assessments
-- Quality assessment methods and cleansing of complex data

Colleagues:

As a fellow professor with a research interest in information security, I?m sure you are as concerned as we are about identifying and defining quality venues for the publication of papers, articles and research pieces on information security, computer security, digital forensics and software assurance topics. While mainstream information systems and computer science venues do publish in this area, there are several quality journals and magazines dedicated specifically to the field of information security.

As information security emerges as its own discipline, it becomes critical to identify the best venues and recommend those to fellow faculty members looking for such outlets and recognition for merit, tenure and promotion. This information could be combined with established ratings and rankings of IS and CS journals to complete a faculty member?s portfolio and vitae.

While a number of research papers have identified and evaluated IS and CS venues (such as AIS?s MIS Journal Rankings at http://ais.affiniscape.com/displaycommon.cfm?an=1&subarticlenbr=432 which includes a study Dr. Whitman did previously on IS journals, which was published in Information Systems Research), we have yet to identify a similar study focused EXCLUSIVELY on information security journals. As such, we have devised a survey of journals and magazines that accept papers from academic authors, and need your assistance in completing it.

Our survey is located at

http://coles.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_cAe0CBWCzoX8INC

We've also created a Tiny URL version for ease of use:

http://tinyurl.com/infosecjournals

Please share this email with any of your colleagues that are actively researching and publishing in information security. If you wish to take this survey, but want to know what journals we are evaluating, you may download our journal listing and URL document from

http://infosec.kennesaw.edu/InfoSecJournals.pdf

beforehand to facilitate survey completion. It should only take a few minutes of your time, and the results will help us all.

Note: If you have previously completed this survey, there is no need to do so again.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

*********************************************************************************************************

The Domain Committee for Communication and Information Technologies (DC ICT) has invited DC FPS to participate in an initiative that deals with enhanced use of ICT in the forest sector. The aim is to come up with ideas that has potential to increase the environmental efficiency of any activity in the forest sector. COST has decided to support this idea, and we now have a call text (attached).

See also http://www.cost.eu/events/gec <http://www.cost.eu/events/gec> or search for COST in Facebook or LinkedIn.

This is an excellent new initiative, but it relies entirely on a sufficient number of proposals. In these times of very few FPS COST Action proposals being submitted I really welcome the opportunity for FPS to show its true interest in COST.

With my very best wishes for all the best in your life,
