POSITION: LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER

THE SCHOOL OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The University of Pretoria is unique in South Africa in administering
Information Science, Informatics (Business Information Systems) and
Computer Science from within a single School of Information Technology
(SIT).  The close collaboration between these departments has resulted in a
market-driven selection of undergraduate and postgraduate IT degree
programs.  A full range of conventional IT degrees is on offer, as well as
the B.IT and M.IT degrees that are unique to South Africa.

DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATICS

The Department of Informatics is looking for exceptional, well-qualified
people to become part of a team of energetic, output-driven academics with
good relationships with overseas academics and strong links with the local
industry. The level of appointment will depend on qualifications and
experience, with the following as minimum requirements:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent at both lecturer and senior lecturer level will be
responsible for:

• Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Informatics;
• Assisting in practical sessions;
• Research and administrative duties.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Lecturer:

• Master’s degree in Informatics/ Business Information Systems/ Information
Technology;
• Teaching or practical experience;
• Research experience and publications;
• Appropriate language and communication skills.


Senior Lecturer:

• Doctoral degree in Informatics/ Business Information Systems/ Information
Technology;
• Teaching or practical experience;
• Research experience and publications in peer reviewed journals;
• Appropriate language and communication skills.


RECOMMENDATIONS:

In-depth knowledge of one or more of the following areas:

• Information technology and socio-economic development;
• Information systems in the organisation;
• Systems analysis and design;
• Web-based information systems;
• C# programming;
• Enterprise Architecture;
• Information Systems and Education;
• Research interest in applied computing;
• Programming languages;
• Theory and practice of software and SWEBOK.


The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s
level of qualification and experience, as determined by UP policy
guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes
50% of the applicable monthly premium.
