 SUBJECT: Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level position

The Department of Information Processing Science, Finland, has openings for one faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor ("tutkijatohtori" in Finnish) or Associate Professor ("yliopistotutkija" in Finnish) in Information Systems (IS). The IS scholars of the department are ranked highly in terms of research productivity among European universities. For example, Top-100 Rankings of Schools (2009-2011, MISQ and ISR), the department was ranked as 41st best IS school worldwide. Faculty numbers of the department have published their research in leading Information Systems journals, such as MIS Quarterly, Information System Research, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, Information & Organization, Information Systems Journal, Information & Management, Communications of the ACM, IEEE Computer, and others.  The department has very strong connections to industry.



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The research performed by the candidate must fit or complement the present research areas of the current IS faculty members. 

The required qualifications for the post include a doctoral degree and high quality scientific competence. The post of Assistant Professor is for applicants with less than five years since getting the Ph.D. When assessing the applicant’s merits, issues to be considered will include scientific publications in leading IS journals, teaching experience, theses supervised, activity in the scientific community, practical familiarity with the field in question, success in acquiring external funding.

The salary will be based on the levels 5-7 of the demand level chart for university–level teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 46.3 % of the job-specific component). The salary is thus being in practice roughly 42 000 € - 57 000 € per year, depending on the appointee’s qualification and experience. The salary is paid for 12 months in a year. Additionally, the post-doctoral scholar is entitled to health care benefits. Teaching load is very low, typically two courses per academic year. The post will be filled for three years (Assistant Professor level) or for five years (Associate level). After that period, the candidate is evaluated.
