TWO PRE-CONFERENCE PANEL EVENTS - Thursday, May 31st, 2012. 2:30 - 6:00 PM
In response to a call for deeper alliance between practice and academe, the Computers and People Research (CPR) conference is hosting two pre-conference practitioner panels designed to generate timely and relevant research. There is no charge for registered CPR attendees for either of these panels. However, to enable us to better manage logistics, please indicate your intent to participate via e-mail to Kate Kaiser (kate.kaiser at marquette.edu).

PRACTITIONER RESEARCH PANEL: BUILDING ALLIANCES BETWEEN PRACTICE AND ACADEME: COMPUTERS AND PEOPLE RESEARCH THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE
2:30 - 4:00 pm, May 31st, 2012

This panel will be comprised of practitioners and research advisors who will discuss leading IT and people issues with the goal of spurring academics and practitioners to collaboratively investigate these questions. The outcome of these investigations is intended to produce a cycle of research to be presented at later CPR conferences. We intend to present this forum each year to fuel future research and assist practitioners in managing the valuable resource of IT professionals and provide pragmatic topics for researchers to investigate. Potential topic areas include: the IT skills and workforce shortage, social inclusion, recruiting and retention practices, user adaptation to new and emerging technologies, global and cultural influences of IT work on people, among others. The panel will refine these topic areas to a more focused research agenda and facilitate relationships for specific projects. The panel is intended to be highly interactive.

CIO PANEL: HOW TO GROOM IT LEADERSHIP AS CHANGE AGENTS
Jointly Sponsored by ACM SIGMIS and Society of Information Management (SIM), Wisconsin
4:30 - 6:00 PM, May 31st, 2012

PANELISTS
Colin Boyd, Johnson Controls
Denis Edwards, Manpower Group
Philip Loftus, Aurora Health Care
Timothy Schaefer, Northwestern Mutual

IT has a unique opportunity, in the changing landscape, to understand the business and work with senior colleagues. As the deliverer of technology, IT has traditionally held the metrics for linking with measurable returns. It now can become the change agent and step up to role of innovator and performance driver. This role demands a different skill set with a new level of communication and influencing skills. How does practice and academe collaborate to find and groom the leadership needed for future IT and business challenges? The CIO panelists will describe their companies' statuses and challenges with regard to IT leadership. They will draw from their experiences and insights to discuss ways to address these opportunities and how practice and academe can join forces for effective outcomes. This panel will be followed by a reception.
