The Digital Futures (CRN) program will explore the future in a digital age
within three specific sub-themes: one is Project 2 which is concerned with
the social and policy challenges of a digital future: a cross-sectional
analysis of rural and regional Australia which has two funded PhD
Scholarship positions as outlined below
Please respond this posting if you have an interest in commencing a PhD in
this exciting area of research or please refer to any students who has
recently completed a Research Masters or Research Honours in an area related
to - Digital Futures of Regional Communities as the rollout of the National
Broadband Network has commenced across Australia in 2011 with Toowoomba one
of the main campuses of University of Southern Queensland being a second
phase site.

We are also seeking researchers who would be interested in international
research collaboration in this exciting area of research
Project 2 - Determining the social and policy challenges of a digital
future: a cross-sectional analysis of rural and regional Australia (2 x PhD
scholarships available)
The aim of this project is to model and quantify the socio-economic and
policy challenges communities are facing in regional Australia, particularly
in the context of rapid expansion of digital technologies. Digital
technology has not only become a crucial part of economic and social
development but is also a strong means of creating social capital. The

for digital technologies as a platform for stronger social cohesion and
social development in rural and regional communities.

The candidate must have a research Master's degree (or equivalent) in
economics or statistics and demonstrated competence in using
statistical/econometric software such as STATA/EViews, for quantitative data
analysis. The candidate should be able to provide evidence of research
readiness and ability to conduct advanced doctoral research.

The candidate must have a research Master's degree (or equivalent) in
information systems, information technology, business, management or
marketing. The candidate should have interest on how the rollout of the
National Broadband Network will impact the sustainability and development of
rural and regional communities. A demonstrated competence in using
statistical packages such as SPSS and/or NVivo, for qualitative or
quantitative data analysis is essential to be considered for this
scholarship. The candidate should be able to provide evidence of research
readiness and ability to conduct advanced doctoral research.
