Climate Change and ICT Conference
Date: 19th – 20th November, 2012
Venue: University Auditorium, Osun State University, Osogbo, Nigeria.
The Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research, Osun State University, Osogbo, Nigeria in collaboration with Xavier University, Cincinnati, USA and International Centre for IT and Development, Southern University, Baton Rouge, USA will host a two-day conference on ICTs and Climate change.
Conference Overview
Climate change and its associated problems such as rising temperature and seal level, flooding, among others have become global issues, attracting the attention of researchers and policy makers alike. Efforts directed at finding ways of mitigating the effects of global climate change have been extended to virtually every aspect of human endeavours, probing how these activities can be leveraged to halt or at least slow down the rate of change. However, the relationship between the new information and communications technologies (ICTs) and climate change remains blurred. Experts differ in their views and opinions as to the possible influence of climate change on the entire ICT infrastructure as well as the contribution(s) of these new technologies to climate change mitigation efforts.
With the proliferation of ICTs and their pervasive adoption and use especially in developing countries, it is important to understand the direction of nexus between climate change and the new technologies. It is this identified lacuna in knowledge that this conference seeks to fill by aggregating views, opinions and systematic investigations from experts and concerned individuals on the possible interactions between climate change and ICTs.
