Greetings,

Puzzled by what constitutes knowledge and how knowledge is acquired?
Uncertain of how to build a body of knowledge in a field that seems to
consistently (persistently) defer to existing empirical methods and
sets of theories?

At AMCIS 2011, SIGPhilosophy held its first workshop of a series
focussed on providing IS researchers and authors tools for answering
questions of a philosophical nature. Since then, the workshops have
gone from strength to strength, to the extent that at ICIS 2011 we ran
out of room during the presentations.

The series continues at ACMIS 2012, in Seattle, with the theme: Tools
for writing in IS philosophy: IS epistemology.

The workshop will be held over two evenings, on the 9th and 10th
August. The first evening, there will be a keynote speaker and then
authors present topics that are of interest to them, each followed by
a discussant. The second evening, we are very lucky to be led by
Professor William Talbott of the University of Washington, in a
workshop on epistemology.

In this CFP, we call for submissions that will be presented on the
first evening. The topics may include at least the following:
- IS epistemology - theory of knowledge
- Philosophical ontology - theory of reality
- Logic and logical fallacies - how to avoid them
- Constructivism - social construction of reality
- Interpretivism - how to do interpretive research
- Ethics and Axiology
- Critical Realism
- Plus others

Places at the workshop are restricted. Presently, seats are filling
fast for the workshop and there are only a few places left. To be
included, you need will need to register your attendance at the AMCIS
2012 website:
http://amcis2012.aisnet.org/index.php/general-information/conference-registration

When you have registered, if you wish to be involved as a presenter,
submit a completed paper or abstract to myself as the workshop
convener, by email. The deadline for submissions shall be 5pm (PDT)
Thursday, 19 July. Calls will be made for discussants (those who have
already registered) soon after. Send submissions to
alan.litchfield at aut.ac.nz
