The University of Bern (Faculty of the Humanities and Faculty of Business, Economics & Social Sciences) invites applications for a full-time position of an Assistant Professorship in Information Science. The assistant professorship, starting February 01, 2013, has an interdisciplinary approach and represents information science as a comprehensive and integrating discipline in the emerging interfacultary competence network Digital Information.

Candidates should possess an outstanding academic qualification in fields dealing with topics of the information sciences including disciplines like information management, computer science, archival and library science, computational linguistics or media and communication sciences. The ability and willingness to interdisciplinary research is essential. Research and teaching interests should cover topics on the potentials and the impacts of current and future information and communication technology in a political, social, economic and cultural context.

The successful candidate is expected to offer teaching for students of both faculties. The language of instruction is German, French and/or English. The successful applicant should be able to speak German or up to acquire German language skills.

The position requires a Ph.D. in Information Science or related disciplines and an respectable research record. The University of Bern is an equal opportunity employer.
The Position is paid by third-party funds and limited to a 4-year fixed-term contract.
