*About the Symposium*

Innovations in Patient Empowerment will bring together leading thinkers and
practitioners in the U.S. and abroad to discuss ways and means of
empowering consumers before, as, and after they access the healthcare
system. In this event, we give voice to technological advances in
conventional medicine, as well as myriad advances beyond conventional
approaches and sites of service. We study the socio-demographic, economic,
political, technological, and industrial forces that have the potential to
move U.S. healthcare toward or away from the interests of patients,
providers, payers, and others. We pay particular attention to those
informatics innovations that are working in educating, engaging and
empowering patients to take charge of their healthcare. Some of the leading
thought-leaders in this space are coming to share their insights. You will
learn about innovations happening in mobile, social media, virtual reality,
wireless, miniaturization sensors, genome sequencing and other topics.
