ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS

San Francisco State University
College of Business
Department of Information Systems

POSITION: This full-time tenure-track position involves graduate and 
undergraduate teaching and research in Information Systems, student 
advising, and university and community service. Current topics of 
instruction, all emphasizing applications within the business 
environment, include business application development (Java), web 
application development, open source systems, mobile business 
applications, business intelligence, business process management, 
e-commerce systems, multimedia application development, information 
systems analysis/design, database systems, network management, IT 
project management, and information security management. A recent 
initiative to incorporate SAP into some courses has resulted in strong 
student interest. Refereed academic journal publications are required 
for promotion and tenure.

RANK AND SALARY: Salary is dependent on rank and qualifications.

APPLICATION CLOSING DATE: Review of applications will begin in fall 2012 
and continue until January 31, 2013 or until the position is filled, 
whichever occurs first. Applications received after the application 
closing date will be reviewed at the discretion of the search committee. 
All final decisions will be contingent on budget and funding.

APPOINTMENT DATE: Fall Semester 2013.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be academically qualified by 
current AACSB standards; business and prior teaching experience are 
desirable. Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in Information 
Systems from an AACSB-accredited institution or equivalent, before 
starting the position in August 2013.

THE DEPARTMENT: Faculty in the department are engaged in on-going 
research programs in a variety of areas including mobile/wireless 
systems, green IT, crowdsourcing, cloud computing, knowledge modeling, 
electronic commerce, IT sourcing, open source adoption, innovative 
technology diffusion, human-system interaction, social network analysis, 
and database systems. Faculty research publications have appeared in 
various journals including ISR, Decision Sciences, EJIS, CAIS, and 
Operations Research, and faculty have published internationally 
recognized textbooks and professional books. The University’s location 
in San Francisco provides excellent opportunities for contacts with 
cutting-edge social media companies and high-tech companies located in 
nearby Silicon Valley. The department also has close contacts with a 
network of CIOs in the San Francisco Bay Area and hosts an annual CIO 
Executive Development program. The department offers a Bachelor of 
Science degree in Information Systems and an MBA with an emphasis in 
Information Systems. The Department has 10 full-time 
tenured/tenure-track faculty and several part-time faculty.

THE COLLEGE: The College of Business is accredited by the AACSB at both 
the undergraduate and graduate levels. The college offers MBA, MSBA in 
accounting, EMBA and BS degrees and serves approximately 500 graduate 
and 4,500 undergraduate students. Courses are offered both day and 
evening. The College has approximately 110 full-time 
tenured/tenure-track faculty. The MBA, MSBA, and EMBA programs are 
housed exclusively in a state-of-the-art educational facility, located 
in the heart of San Francisco's downtown financial and shopping center. 
The undergraduate business program is located on the university's main 
campus.
