European Conference of Information Systems 2013, e-Health Track

Oneofthemostimportantissuesconcerningglobalwelfareisthecurrentstateofhealthcareworldwide.E-health hasenormouspotentialtoimproveservicedeliveryinhealthcarenotonlyinWesternsocietiesbutalsoacrossthe digitaldivide.Crossingthisborderisoneofthemaintasksfore-healthresearchersinthenearfuture. However,to fullyexploitthepowerofE-healthmanychallengesandproblemsmustbeovercome.Theintegrationofmany platformswithinahealthcarenetworkisa prerequisiteforthesuccessfuldevelopmentanddeploymentofE-health. TheadoptionanddiffusionofE-healthconsistentlylagsbehindotherindustries.Subsequently,specificIS knowledgeisneededtoraisetheleveloftheadoptionrateinadditiontotransformhealthcareandhealthcarepolicies acrosstheglobe.TheprivacyissuesspecifictoE-health,while well known,arestillnotsolved;moreover, legislationishamperingE-healthprogress.Further,patientslackingevidence-basedinformationcanbecome empoweredthroughE-healthwhenmovingthroughthehealthcarechain.

E-healthcansupporttwoambitiousgoals,namely,(1)buildingefficiencyindevelopedcountriesand(2)building knowledgeinundeveloped.Accordingly,thistrackseekstopromoteandencouragetheuseofprovenindustry technologiesinhealthcaresettings.Here,thelearningcyclecanbereducedandthebridgeacrossthedigitaldivide mended.Thetrackwelcomeswork focusingonadoptionanddiffusionas wellasnewtechnologyinnovations.

NewtechnologyoftendrivesimprovementsinE-health.Thereisasignificantneedfor superiorbusinessmodeling techniquestoevaluatetechnologyintheearlystagesofthedevelopment.Manynew“successful”applicationsend upontheshelflackingthe opportunitytoscaleuptoa national,orinternational,levelor lackinginvestmentsupport fromoutsideorganizations.Thistrackwillprovidea platformforresearchersandpractitionerstosubmitoriginal studiesonthefollowingsubjectsandonotherappropriatelyconnected topics:
