PACIS 2013 Track on IT/IS in Healthcare
Jeju Island, Korea, June 18th to 22nd, 2013.

The healthcare industry is one of the largest and fastest growing industries worldwide, with growth projected to increase through 2050. Further, the healthcare industry currently faces many challenges in terms of changing institutional and regulatory pressures and expectations. Information systems (IS) and technology (IT) have been touted to be vehicles for more efficient, less costly and more effective healthcare. However, the diffusion of IS/IT in healthcare is generally low in the Asia Pacific region. Given IS/IT's potential for benefit in the healthcare context, both private and public sectors have engaged in numerous efforts to promote the use of IS/IT within and across healthcare settings. Therefore, it is imperative that we gain a better understanding of the role of IS/IT in addressing the behavioural, economic, organizational, strategic and technical issues facing the healthcare industry. This research track focuses on such issues. We invite quality submissions of manuscripts that seek to address the various aspects of IS/IT in healthcare.

Possible topics include (but are not limited to):

  * Impact of healthcare IT/IS on healthcare access, costs, care delivery, and outcomes
  * Designing healthcare organizations, systems and processes incorporating e-health solutions
  *   E-Health Policy
  * E-health and emergency and disaster relief
  * The role of IS in improving care in different national health systems
  * Developing and implementing new economic models of financing healthcare services through IT-enabled mechanisms
  * Online health communities (e.g., support groups for chronic health conditions)
  * Online health technologies in managing and sharing healthcare information
  * Impact of Web 2.0 and other emerging technologies on healthcare
  * Privacy, security and trust issues with online and other e-health solutions
