Iowa State University offers a doctoral program in Business with a major in Information Technology (MIT). The PhD in MIT seeks to develop competent scholars, individuals who will excel in research and teaching positions at other major universities. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.

The program typically takes a four-year, full-time commitment. Students spend their first two years completing course work in MIT, research methods, and supporting courses, and the doctoral dissertation is completed in the final two years.

The focus of the program will be on three broad areas: 1) decision and management science, 2) technology and software systems, and 3) organizational and behavioral science. It will offer a unique synthesis of knowledge from several related areas such as computer science, human-computer interaction, systems design and development, artificial intelligence, systems security, process engineering, and modeling. A unique aspect of the program is that it offers students the opportunity to collaborate with researchers on issues relating to how IT enables better performance of key business processes such as supply chain and customer management.

The information systems department has faculty that are internationally known for their work. This includes Prof. Joey George (computer mediated deception), Prof. Sree Nilakanta (adoption and diffusion of innovations, systems building and testing), Prof. Brian Mennecke and Prof. Tony Townsend (human computer interaction and virtual reality), Prof. Dan Zhu (business intelligence), and Prof. Zhengrui Jiang (modeling, software engineering and economics), to name a few.

All students selected for the program will be fully funded, including tuition and medical insurance for the student.
