Call for Papers
MIS Quarterly Executive December 2013 Special Issue
"How to Succeed in a World of Big Data"

You are invited to submit a paper to the MIS Quarterly Executive Special Issue, How to Succeed in a World of Big Data.  For this Special Issue, we invite researchers to explore the implications of big data for management strategies and practices, with an emphasis on how IT and business leaders can drive business value from their digital information. The intent is to examine the new business opportunities and management challenges resulting from growing volumes of structured and unstructured data, generated both internal and external to the enterprise.

We especially encourage submissions based on in-depth case studies, analyses of key management practices, and field-based insights on current trends. Submissions viewed most favorably will be those that provide interesting frameworks, rich illustrations and examples of practices that can be applied by other executives. Papers addressing topics related to business intelligence, business analytics, data management or big data, could focus on (but are not limited to) the following themes:

. Innovative business uses of data
. Examples of predictive approaches and their achieved benefits
. Cultural and behavioral issues raised by big data
. Governance practices contributing to delivering value through data
. Deriving business value from social media data
. "Working smarter" practices that help people use data effectively
. Big data pitfalls-and how to avoid them
. Special challenges associated with non-traditional forms of data
. Data strategy development
. Implications of mobility for exploiting big data
. Organizational approaches to developing and sustaining big data skills and capabilities
. Implications for individual and organizational decision-making processes

MISQE publishes papers based on in-depth research that provide rich stories, unique insights, and useful conceptual frameworks for information systems practice. Our target audience includes both practitioners and researchers -- so that MISQE can stimulate ongoing discussions at the intersection of research and practice -- but our primary focus is research that is immediately relevant and useful for practice.  All submitting authors are encouraged to look at prior published MISQE research articles for presentation models. All prior articles can be downloaded free by AIS and SIM members at: www.misqe.org. AIS members can also access MISQE articles via the AIS eLibrary.

Please note that articles published in or under consideration for other journals or as book chapters cannot be considered. Papers awaiting presentation or already presented at conferences must be revised (ideally, taking advantage of feedback received at the conference) in order to receive consideration. Presentation at a conference should be indicated in the acknowledgements.

When preparing your submission, please look at the Review Criteria on the Review Process page on the MISQE website (http://misqe.org/ojs2/index.php/misqe/pages/view/reviewprocess) and the Format Guidelines at (http://misqe.org/ojs2/index.php/misqe/pages/view/formatguidelines).

Please send a cover letter with your submission that includes:
. the names, institutions, and e-mail addresses of all authors
. the names of potential reviewers (and their e-mail addresses if the potential reviewers are not members of the Editorial Board). See the Review Process page on the MISQE web site for more information about nominating reviewers.
. the authors' preference for review format, either open or double blind. See the Review Process page for more information on open versus double blind reviews.
. An indication that your submission complies with MISQE's submission guidelines:
   1. Paper is formatted according to MISQE's format guidelines (http://misqe.org/ojs2/index.php/misqe/pages/view/formatguidelines)
   2. Paper has not been published by nor is under review at another journal or as a book or book chapter.
