Position: Postdoctoral Researcher in Ontology Modelling

Salary: €33,975 - €38,155

Project Background:

The objective of the Governance Risk and Compliance Technology Centre (GRCTC) is to build a portfolio of innovative, applied research projects and outputs that address the significant challenges facing the Financial Industry in terms of Governance, Risk and Compliance. There is a growing realisation in the industry that semantic technologies offer the most viable solutions to many of these challenges. Hence, the GRCTC’s research focus is on the development of a federation of GRC ontology and process models, Semantics of Business Vocabulary and Business Rules (SBVR)-based semantic repositories, and capability maturity models. These semantic knowledge bases, process and maturity models will provide the foundation for GRC technology solutions to be developed by software enterprises, financial services organisations, technology and services vendors, content providers, and regulators—nationally and internationally.

The GRCTC requires an experienced postdoctoral researcher with knowledge and capabilities in the research and development of domain-specific ontologies using the OWL 2 Web Ontology Language and related standards and technologies. The successful candidate will conduct applied research and development on regulatory and GRC ontologies.

A postdoctoral researcher is therefore sought with significant experience in ontology modelling and development and one or more of the following areas:

  *   Protégé ontology editor and knowledge-base framework
  *   Java Programming
  *   Semantic languages, technologies and related standards (e.g. UML, XML, SPARQL, RDF, Graphs etc.)
  *   Logic families such as Common Logic and Description Logic.
  *   Semantics of Business Vocabulary and Business Rules (SBVR)
  *   Governance Risk and Compliance
  *   Domain knowledge in Financial Services.

This is a 5 year project funded by Enterprise Ireland on behalf of the Irish Government; however, the successful applicant will be offered a one year contract initially, with extension to 5 years subject to continued funding.
