E-Learning as a Socio-Cultural System: A Multidimensional Analysis

Objective of the Book
 
This book will aim to provide relevant theoretical frameworks and the latest empirical research findings in the area. It will be written for professionals who want to improve their understanding and performance in developing e-learning as a system in a balanced and rewarding way for participants and organisations.

 
Target Audience
 
The potential users are identified based on the focus on identified participants of the socio-cultural system of e-learning/teaching: teachers in higher education, managers in higher education (and in other sectors of educational systems), policy makers (to some extent), IT professionals, and researchers in the field. However, we think the group with the most to gain will be teachers in higher education who are interested in enriching experiences for their students in higher education, organisations with employment of e-learning and teaching, and also the groups of professionals who are directly involved in fostering the process: distance education organisers at organisations, IT professionals who participate in the field actively, and researchers who are interested in locating e-learning and teaching within the authentic experiencing of learning in higher education studies. 


Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

* E-learning as socio-cultural system.
* Formal higher educational settings role of e-learning. 
* Students` engagement in e-learning activities.
* Integration of ICT tools for learning and management (e-learning platform, EMS, CMS, e-portfolios etc.)
* Findings from neuroscience and their application for e-learning.
* Teachers` engagement in e-learning and teaching activities.
* The role of IT professionals in e-learning developments. Collaboration between IT professionals` and education professionals` communities in the development of e-learning systems
* Challenges of ICT  based innovations in higher education.
* Role of management and business for e-learning development.
* Strategies of choosing or changing e-learning infrastructure and environment for educational institution and/or business organisation.
* Stakeholder coordination in the development and innovation of e- learning systems;
* Organisational culture and e-learning.
* Staff development in higher education and e-learning.
* New trends in e-learning (e.g. MOOCs, mobile learning, ubiquitous learning etc.) both IT and methodology perspective.
* E-learning as a part of the rhetoric on the development of knowledge society.          


Submission Procedure
 
By April 15, 2013 - Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter.
By April 30, 2013 - Authors of accepted proposals are notified about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. 
By August 15, 2013 - Full chapters are expected to be submitted. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

August 15, 2013: Full Chapter Submission
October 15, 2013: Review Results Returned
November 15, 2013: Final Chapter Submission
January 15, 2014: Final Deadline
