FACULTY OF ENGINEERING, BUILT ENVIRONMENT AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY 
DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATICS 
LECTURER / SENIOR LECTURER / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (TWO POSTS)

The University of Pretoria is unique in South Africa in administering
Information Science, Informatics (Business Information Systems) and
Computer Science from within a single School of Information Technology
(SIT). The close collaboration between these departments has resulted in
a market-driven selection of undergraduate and postgraduate IT degree
programs. A full range of conventional IT degrees are on offer, as well
as the B.IT and M.IT degrees that are unique to South Africa. 

The Department of Informatics is looking for exceptional, well
qualified people to become part of a team of energetic, output-driven
academics with good international academic relationships and strong
links with the local industry. The level of appointment will depend on
qualifications and experience. 


RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The incumbent will be responsible for: 

• Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Informatics; 
• Assisting with the community-based projects and research duties; 
• Departmental administrative tasks. 


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

Lecturer: 

• A Master’s degree in Informatics / Business Information Systems /
Information Technology; 
• Teaching experience or practical industry experience in Informatics;

• Research experience and publications in peer reviewed journals and
conferences; 
• In-depth knowledge of one or more of the following areas: 
o Information technology and socio-economic development; 
o Information systems in the organisation; 
o Systems analysis and design; 
o Web-based information systems; 
o Programming; 
o Enterprise architecture; 
o Information systems and education; 
• Appropriate language and communication skills; 
• Strong programming skills or business and system analysis skills; 
• An interest in community-based projects. 

Senior Lecturer: (same as for Lecturer, plus) 

• A Doctorate in Informatics / Business Information Systems /
Information Technology; 
• Extensive postgraduate supervision in Informatics or industry
experience; 
• Active engagement as a researcher in Informatics within one of the
Department’s focus research areas; 
• International recognition as a researcher. 

Associate Professor (same as for Senior Lecturer, plus): 

• At least national recognition as a researcher. 


RECOMMENDATIONS: 

• NRF rating. 


The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the
incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy
guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and
contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
