1st Workshop on INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT IN EMERGING ECONOMIES
(IT&MEE)
at the 11th International Conference in Economics and Management ICEM 2013
September 27-28 2013, Hotel Habana Libre, Havana, Cuba

-– CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS -–

Information and communication technologies (ICT) are the key driver of
economic development. Yet, developing and emerging countries face different
challenges than the industrialized nations in the management and use of ICT
for businesses, public organizations and the society as a whole. This
workshop provides a forum for discussion of practical experience and
scientific research under the overarching question: How can ICT help to
overcome the economic and societal challenges in developing and emerging
countries?

The scope of this workshop is intentionally broad and multidisciplinary. We
invite contributions from empirical, conceptual and design-oriented
standpoints. Empirical contributions, for example, could report on a case
from a development organization that leverages ICT to achieve its goals.
Conceptual works might analyze the dispersed literature and provide a
framework to better understand the impacts of ICT in developing and emerging
economies. Design-oriented works can include constructs, methods, algorithms
and prototype systems that address challenges in these economic contexts.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Challenges of ICT management in developing and emerging countries
- Methods for managing ICT development projects
- ICT for small and medium enterprises (SMEs)
- ICT use in non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
- Open source and free software
- Applications of mobile telephony
- Applications of cloud computing
- Optimization of supply chains and resource planning
- Internet diffusion and social inclusion
- The role of human capital for the effective use of ICT
- ICT in education and university curricula

CONTRIBUTIONS AND LANGUAGE

Contributions to this workshop may be submitted in English or Spanish. We
invite two types of contributions: extended abstracts and research papers.
Extended abstracts should not exceed 2 pages and are mainly assessed based

based on their practical relevance and scientific rigor. Papers accepted for
