Ph.D position - Computer Science, Pattern Recognition, Text Analysis
and Computer Vision
Varese, Italy
---
A fully funded Ph.D position in Computer Science (3 years) is
currently available at the ArTe-Lab [1] research laboratory of the
University of Insubria.
Location: Varese/Pavia, Italy
Starting: January 1st 2014
Deadline for application: September 15th 2013
User generated content (UGC) and online reviews are increasingly
multimedia, combining text, images and video. Early exemplars include
the ability to post pictures to review sites such as TripAdvisor,
image-focused user generated content such as Pinterest pins and
Tumblr posts. These systems enable users and customers to convey
product and experience information visually, highlighting the
important features of objects or services with greater immediacy than
text alone.
The funding for this Ph.D position is for research that focuses on
the analysis and the processing of multimedia UGC and reviews. The
candidate will investigate the synergic application of pattern
recognition, text analysis and computer vision techniques to analyze
the content of multimedia reviews associated with commercial
products/services and multimedia UGC on social media platforms.
The candidates should:
* hold a relevant degree in Computer Science or Mathematics;
* have experience programming with at least one of the following
languages: C++, Java, Matlab.
* knowledge of R is a plus
