This is a reminder for call for paper presentations at the SIG on Philosophy of Information Systems Workshop at AMCIS 2013 in Chicago

We are delighted to offer an invitation for submissions to be made for presentations on the first evening of the SIG Philosophy of Information Systems Workshop that will be held on 15 and 16 August. We invite presentations on the topic at this workshop, "Dealing with Complexity".
________________________________________
Workshop theme: Dealing with complexity

A function of the philosophical method of enquiry involves gaining comprehension of complex systems. The field of Information Systems has long sought to gain understanding (mainly through applied research) by building a body of knowledge about complex relationships in social organisms, technology, and autopoiesis. This workshop provides a forum for discussion of current issues related to the discovery, interpretation, and presentation of complexity in the Information Systems context. Of key interest to participants will be issues for managing complexity, strategies and approaches for designing research programmes, arguments for and against modelling and abstractions as representations of reality, and philosophical presentations on the topic of complexity versus simplicity and how they may be conceived.

The workshop continues the series of increasingly popular events that have been run at both the AMCIS and ICIS conferences and will soon be run at other IS conferences too. The events are been aimed at promoting philosophical discussion of IS topics and issues. A principal aim has been to provide a forum for multiple voices to be heard on current subjects.

As with previous and highly successful workshops, this shall take two parts in which there will be an opportunity for presentations with respondents and open discussion, and a session led by a keynote speaker. The SIG AGM shall also be incorporated into the even, at which SIG members will have the opportunity to vote on important changes required to be made.
