Postdoc in Business Proces Intelligence

The School of Industrial Engineering of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) has a vacancy for a Postdoc (2 years) in Business Process Intelligence for a cutting-edge research project in collaboration with industry.

Eindhoven University of Technology is one of the world’s leading research universities (ranked by the Times Higher Education Supplement). It is in particular well]known for its joint research with industry (ranked number one worldwide by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies). The Information Systems Group in the School of Industrial Engineering performs advanced research in the area of business process engineering, focusing on business process management (BPM) and business process intelligence (BPI). The group has a strong national and international reputation for both basic research in the academic community and applied research with industry. The research will be conducted at Eindhoven University of Technology, at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences (IE&IS), embedded within the Research Group of Information Systems. The position is funded by the Dutch Institute for Advanced Logistics (DINALOG) as part of the DAIPEX project.

Job description

You will contribute to a challenging research project that operates on the boundaries between computer science and operations research on the one hand, and between academic research and industrial application on the other. You will perform your research in close collaboration with researchers from the academic groups participating in the project and with developers from participating companies. You will be in contact with researchers from the international community by reporting your research findings in research journals and at international conferences and workshops. You will also translate your findings to the industrial R&D arena.

Research project

The goal of the project is to develop a (near) real-time processing mechanism that can efficiently aggregate information from high-volume business data streams to provide up-to-date management information for operational business decision makers. The mechanism will be able to detect and correct errors in the data stream in an on-the-fly fashion, also in cases where traditional mechanisms for detecting outliers fail. The application area is real-time processing of high-volume logistics information. Concrete cases will, for example, be constructed from harbor service processes with heavily fluctuating and unpredictable behavior and road transport processes with high volumes of real-time data.

Requirements

You, as a successful applicant, have a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Operations Research or a similar field of study, or are close to completing one. You are familiar with Data Mining, Information Retrieval and Computational Intelligence and have research experience in a related area. You are able to work independently on a challenging topic that has both basic and applied research aspects. Your communication skills are excellent as is your proficiency in English and your ability to collaborate with industry partners.

Appointment and salary

We offer a full time post-doc position for a period of 2 years. Your gross salary will in the range of €2.890 - € 3.793 per month (according to the CAO Dutch Universities). Eindhoven University of Technology also offers a broad package of other benefits including a 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end of year allowance, an excellent technical infrastructure, moving expenses, coverage of costs of publishing the dissertation and excellent sports facilities.
