This year's AMCIS Social Event will be at The Art Institute of Chicago, just a short 11 minutes walk from the conference hotel along the Michigan Avenue. At one million square feet, it is the second largest art museum in the United States. It is most famous for its collections of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and American paintings. During our Social, the Impressionist Galleries will be open for viewing, but if you can't wait, you can preview them here: http://www.artic.edu/aic/collections/.

Weather permitting, and before or after visiting the galleries, we will gather at the Museum Café and McKinlock Court, an outdoor courtyard around the centerpiece fountain, a replica of Carl Milles' Fountain of the Tritons in Copenhagen. The Court is encircled by museum galleries. In case of bad weather, we will meet indoors in the old Chicago Stock Exchange Room, designed by famous Chicago architects Sullivan and Adler and reconstructed by the Art Institute in 1976-77.

Just one block north from the Art Institute is the Millennium Park with Jay Pritzker Pavilion designed by Frank Gehry. You can catch at least a part of a free concert, which starts at 7:30 p.m. Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus will perform two works of John Adams and end by Stravinsky's revolutionary Rite of Spring, as powerful and relevant today as when it premiered 100 years ago. See more about the Grant Park Music Festival in Millennium Park here: http://www.grantparkmusicfestival.com/.

If you prefer jazz to classical music, visit the Jazz Showcase<http://www.jazzshowcase.com/> featuring Brazilian trumpeter Claudio Roditi's quartet with Jim Trumpeter, George Fludas, and Dennis Carroll. Shows start at 8 and 10 p.m. The venue is located at 8706 South Plymouth Court, just three blocks west of the conference hotel.

Finally, note that special rates at Hilton Chicago expire on July 22nd. As an incentive for conference attendees to book their hotel reservations<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001ZPck8dfdpBgf_nF_jpvPwyXzV3g2XVX_8kg_ZpDmwYxZ1uAAoeDFmKfZCvXuznrwVDqIyavri2lsUBtjoYJzbxR7Fa2j_vVI2hwFLq11h1ylBILpeQUvyX69YkM-jz8saGqpUXlxHUcNkuhJ-uUL8jVMDMjf25ifcCj0nvn3aDzNGwx7_QTvvYLtCINQP_hX> soon at the conference hotel, the Hilton, we will be doing a drawing.

Anyone whose AIS membership is active and who will have their hotel reservation booked by July 22nd at the Hilton for at least 3 nights will be automatically entered in a drawing for 2 complimentary AMCIS 2013 (Chicago) conference registrations and 2 complimentary ICIS 2013 (Milan) conference registrations. That's a value of more than $3,000 USD.

The Conference Chairs wish you a most enjoyable stay in Chicago. See you soon,

Sasha Dekleva
