On behalf of the AMCIS 2013 organizing committee, I am delighted to welcome
you to the upcoming Americas Conference on Information Systems in Chicago
Illinois.   Jeanne Ross, Director and Principal Research Scientist at MIT’s
CISR will present her insight into the business challenge of effective,
humane, and innovative uses of information; our authors and presenters will
entertain you with fascinating updates on the latest technological
developments, with workshops, poster sessions and technical demonstrations
at AMCIS 2013.  Moreover, I want to encourage all attendees to take some
time off to tour the great city of Chicago.



Chicago is an exciting venue for our conference, endowed with strong
intellectual traditions, leading financial markets, industry, and
especially a burgeoning, innovative technology sector.  Steeped in culture,
Chicago offers theater, opera, jazz, pop and classical music, a vibrant
nightlife, all with a unique, quintessentially American, flavor.



Chicago’s technology accelerator – 1871.com in the Merchandise Mart – is
the epicenter of Chicago’s technology community, and is only a short scenic
walk from our conference venue.   1871 is a familiar date for native
Chicagoans – the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 isn’t really about the fire.
It’s about what happened next: A remarkable moment when the most brilliant
engineers, architects and inventors came together to build a new city.
Their innovations – born of passion and practical ingenuity – shaped not
just Chicago, but the modern world.  Chicago’s digital designers, engineers
and entrepreneurs are once again shaping new technologies, disrupting old
business models, and resetting the boundaries of what’s possible.



Welcome to a great conference in a great city.  I encourage to take full
advantage of the conference to inquire, participate and explore the latest
developments in IT, and foremost to enjoy yourself in Chicago!
