A rare opportunity opened up and we gladly adopted our plan for the Social Event. The Art Institute of Chicago offered us an option to see its current special exhibition Impressionism, Fashion, and Modernity<http://www.artic.edu/exhibitions/impressionism-fashion-and-modernity>. The Art Institute is the last stop on the world tour. The other two places it has been on display were the Louvre in Paris and the Metropolitan in New York. This inventive exhibition explores the vital relationship between fashion and art during the momentous time not only through the masterworks by the Impressionists, but also with fashion portraitists.
The exhibition galleries will open at 5:45 p.m. and remain accessible until 9:00 p.m. You should plan to spend up to 1.5 hours to explore the 75 paintings. The Art Institute of Chicago has created an app<http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/art-institute-chicago-tours/id598666649?mt=8#__utma=131782111.1471532742.1374765930.1374765930.1374769104.2&__utmb=131782111.1.10.1374769104&__utmc=131782111&__utmx=-&__utmz=131782111.1374769104.2.2.utmcsr=google%7Cutmccn=%28organic%29%7Cutmcmd=organic%7Cutmctr=%28not%20provided%29&__utmv=-&__utmk=88251995> that will help you work your way attentively through the exhibition. Once the app is downloaded, simply click on the first option "Preview: Impressionism, Fashion and Modernity" for additional information.
The reception at the Art Institute’s Museum Café and McKinlock Court with drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and live jazz will be from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
As both the special exhibition and the reception are on the east (back) side of the Art Institute, we will use the 230 South Columbus Drive entrance, one block east of Michigan Avenue. For an online map with walking directions from the conference hotel to the event click here<https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Hilton+Chicago,+South+Michigan+Avenue,+Chicago,+IL&daddr=230+South+Columbus+Drive,+Chicago,+IL&hl=en&ll=41.876304,-87.622468&spn=0.009107,0.021136&sll=41.876128,-87.623391&sspn=0.009618,0.021136&geocode=FWHsfgIdAPXG-iGh2wm71ONNACkveiwkmSwOiDGh2wm71ONNAA%3BFSsIfwIdAADH-im73WEloSwOiDHMZ-fJA8Ya_A&dirflg=w&mra=ls&t=m&z=16>.
We hope that you will enjoy this last event on the conference schedule as much as the rest of the conference. See you soon,
Sasha Dekleva, Conference Co-Chair
