Assistant Professor of Business Analytics



The University of Tennessee College of Business Administration invites
applications and nominations for a tenure track, Assistant Professor
position in the Department of Statistics, Operations, and Management
Science. A primary research interest in developing analytic tools relevant
to business is expected.  Success publishing research in top journals is
desired, along with an interest in collaboration with other College of
Business colleagues and experience with finding solutions to business
problems.  Review of applications will begin in November 2013 and will
continue until the position is filled.  Effective date of employment will
be August 1, 2014, or when filled.  Compensation will be competitive.



Qualifications

Required: A Ph.D. degree in statistics or a related field with a focus on
business analytics, as of the starting date of employment. Experience in
applying analytics to real world problems.



Preferred: The ideal candidate will have: work experience in a business
analytics role; knowledge of widely-used technologies in business
analytics; commitment to a scholarly research record as evidenced by
publications in top-tier journals; teaching experience; appreciation of the
role of analytics in various business functions; ability to work well with
college and department colleagues.



Program Information

The Department of Statistics, Operations, and Management Science is one of
six departments within the College of Business Administration at the
University of Tennessee.  The Department currently offers bachelors and
masters degrees in Business Analytics and Ph.D. degrees in both Business
Administration and Management Science, as well as a dual M.B.A./M.S. in
Business Analytics in conjunction with the College’s MBA program.  We have
been very successful in placing our students in organizations such as
Capital One, Career Builders, Deloitte Consulting, Disney, dunnhumbyUSA,
eBay, Ernst & Young, Exxon, Hanes, Home Depot, Regal Entertainment, State
Farm, and Target. The department emphasizes working with business through
1) multiple capstone projects each semester with partner companies, 2) our
Business Analytics Forum in which non-competing companies meet to share
best practices, and 3) an active seminar series where we host business
analytics professionals weekly. In spring 2012 the department hosted a
national Business Analytics conference of business practitioners and
academics. The faculty are active in publishing and numerous members serve
on editorial boards. Faculty excellence has been recognized by national
awards, including the Edelman Prize, Emerald Management Reviews Citation of
Excellence, ASQ’s Nelson Award, etc.



Duties/Responsibilities

Research requirements include a strong and continuing record of
publications in top-tier journals.  Collaboration on research projects with
other faculty and with students is expected.  Also, the successful
candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching mission at the
undergraduate, masters, and PhD levels.  Finally, candidates would be
expected to advise students and facilitate industry connections.
