About the Department



The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems is composed of
information systems and computer science. Faculty members of the department
have published their research in leading Information Systems journals, such
as MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the
Association for Information Systems, European Journal of Information
Systems, and others. Faculty members hold editorial positions in reputable
IS journals. The department has very strong connections to industry. Data
collection opportunities are outstanding.



The department has recently recruited two new IS professors (Mikko Siponen
and Tuure Tuunanen). Prof. Kalle Lyytinen has a part-time professorship in
the department. With the present and the future recruitments, the
department aims to enhance its reputation as a leading IS institution in
Europe.



About Jyväskylä and the University of Jyväskylä:



Jyväskylä is located in Central Finland in the western part of the Finnish
Lakeland. It is the largest city in central Finland. The hilly terrain in
Jyväskylä is surrounded by hundreds of lakes.



University of Jyväskylä is a research-oriented university. The department
of Computer Science and Information Systems belongs to the Faculty of
Information Technology, which is the largest and oldest in Finland in its
branch. Information systems science has been taught at the University of
Jyväskylä since 1967. The Department of Computer Science and Information
systems is located in the new Mattilanniemi campus, at the lake (

Jyväskylä is ranked in the top 300 by QS World University Rankings, the
annual British comparison of universities. The University’s position is now
299, and in 2012 the position was 309.

Your application must include:

• a written postgraduate study plan (60 ECTS, see Degree structure)

• a preliminary research plan (see example structure for a research plan)
• language test results (if needed)

• a copy of the master's degree certificate and the transcript of records
(if the degree is not from the University of Jyväskylä)
