The Arizona State University School of Public Affairs invites applications
for three tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate
level. Hiring will focus on active, entrepreneurial emerging scholars with
a desire to work collaboratively across disciplinary lines as they
establish themselves as leaders in core fields of public administration and
policy research.

The ASU School of Public Affairs (SPA) has embarked upon a period of
unprecedented growth as a strategically important element in Arizona State
University’s emergence as a “New American University.” The School enjoys a
national reputation and high rankings in public administration overall,
with urban policy and management ranked #2. It is home to a number of
applied research centers that focus on areas such as urban innovation,
organizational design, and policy informatics. SPA faculty members have
been successful in attracting external funding from national scientific
agencies, foundations, and the private sector.

SPA offers Bachelor degrees in Urban and Metropolitan Studies and in Public
Service and Public Policy, the Master of Public Policy, the Master of
Public Administration, and the Ph.D. in Public Administration and Policy.
In the years ahead, SPA will draw more students attracted to the unique
opportunity of an interdisciplinary public affairs education, with focused
training in the core and the ability to chart a path of their choosing.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment and must
demonstrate strong research and teaching interests in core areas of public
policy or public administration, including a demonstrable record or promise
of high quality research in leading publications and excellent teaching.
Faculty members are expected to pursue external funding to support
research; evidence of the ability to do this should be highlighted. While
these are open field searches, candidates with strengths in public
budgeting and finance, human resource management, city management, or
political economy are strongly encouraged.

Additionally, the SPA faculty continues to expand its areas of policy
expertise, concurrently developing ties in a range of policy areas in other
ASU units including: sustainability, homeland security, emergency
management, technology, business, engineering, social policy, criminology,
planning, health solutions and law. Interest in these or other policy
offerings overlapping with ASU schools is strength. Joint appointments are
a possibility for qualified candidates where appropriate.

Applications are strongly encouraged as soon as possible but before the
October 15 deadline; additional applications will be evaluated each week
and continue until positions are filled. Please submit electronically a
letter of application, current vita, a personal statement that clearly
outlines how your research and teaching interests deepen existing strengths
of SPA or bring complementary perspectives that extend our capabilities,
two writing samples, and names and contact information of three
professional references:
