Call for Chapters
The book is almost finished but we are looking for additional contributions
until 30 September 2013. According to requests from authors, we can also
provide some more time (not passing the 30 October 2013) to prepare
chapters.

Introduction
The advent of our modern, knowledge-based society requires innovations and
newer approaches in performing educational activities. Thus, different
methods and technologies have been introduced to realize said requirements
within the education field. In this sense, a remarkable improvement in
education has been realized by using information and communication
technologies. At this point, different educational methods, like distance
education, and different distance education-based techniques, like
E-Learning, have also been introduced. In this sense, E-Learning is one of
the most popular and effective distance education techniques in today’s
modern education field.

In addition to the effective features of E-Learning, researchers also
perform more scientific studies to support E-Learning or improve its
functions and features to provide better conditions within the learning and
teaching process. At this point, many different approaches (M-Learning,
blended learning…etc.) have been introduced. On the other hand, there are
also many remarkable innovations in the related subject area.

Being associated with the mentioned innovations, there have been remarkable
scientific research efforts on using Artificial Intelligence techniques to
support classical E-Learning (distance education) approaches or develop
newer E-Learning (distance education) approaches to continue development of
the subject area. Certainly, there will be more effectiveness in the
related E-Learning studies and activities thanks to support of Artificial
Intelligence techniques. At this point, in order to improve the literature
and open new doors to the future developments, there exists a need for an
edited collection of articles in the area of E-Learning and Artificial
Intelligence.

Objective of the Book
This book will aim to provide a popular perspective to the distance
education field (especially for E-Learning) in order to explain
developments and the latest situation of the subject area. In this context,
it is aimed to introduce Artificial Intelligence-based distance education
applications within an international spectrum. By explaining and
introducing the related applications, approaches and techniques, people who
are interested in the related fields (distance education, E-Learning,
Artificial Intelligence...etc.) will also be enabled to improve their
knowledge about the current literature and developments in this sense.
Furthermore, the publication will also aim to call readers' (researchers')
attention to a new concept called Intelligent Distance Education. This
concept includes many different scientific studies associated with
combining distance education and Artificial Intelligence fields. Nowadays,
development of intelligent distance education applications or systems is an
improving interest area. It is also extremely important to improve current
literature of the education field. In this sense, this book will be written
to cover the related research fields and provide a unique reference source
within the mentioned objectives.

Target Audience
The target audience of this book will be composed of professionals and
researchers working in the fields of distance education, E-Learning and
Artificial Intelligence. Furthermore, the target audience will also include
people who are interested in developments and scientific studies within the
mentioned fields. In other words, the book will be utilized generally in
the education field and more specifically in distance education (especially
e-learning). Additionally, it will also be utilized within the Artificial
Intelligence area of the computer science field. As such, it will provide a
research document intersecting both distance education and Artificial
Intelligence and, in this way, will aid the mentioned target audience by
enabling them to learn more about the latest developments and improvements
within the literature and use the book as an information source for their
own research activities. The book can also be used as an educational
material to examine latest improvements within the distance education field
and understand the usage of Artificial Intelligence techniques in this
context.

Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
Briefly, the overall focus of the book is based on the use of Artificial
Intelligence-based approaches, methods or techniques for designing and
developing intelligent distance education (especially E-Learning)
applications, research works and solutions. In more detail, it is also
possible to list the recommended titles as below:
