Introduction
Green Computing is a term usually employed for denoting efficient usage of
resources within computing approaches. According to a publication about the
subject (Harnessing Green IT: Principles and Practices), Murugesan defines
Green Computing as "the study and practice of designing, manufacturing,
using, and disposing of computers, servers, and associated subsystems—such
as monitors, printers, storage devices, and networking and communications
systems—efficiently and effectively with minimal or no impact on the
environment." In the context of the related definitions, Green Computing
relates to the use of computing resources in conjunction with minimizing
environmental impact, maximizing economic viability, and ensuring social
duties. In this sense, it is very much related to other similar movements,
like reducing the use of environmentally hazardous materials like CFCs,
promoting the use of recyclable materials, minimizing use of
non-biodegradable components, and encouraging use of sustainable resources.
Nowadays, many organizations, companies, and other establishments related
to computer technologies encourage their staff or related groups to adopt
Green Computing initiatives to reduce the environmental impacts of their IT
operations. At this point, interested researchers and also scientists
perform works associated with making the use of computers as
energy-efficient as possible, and designing algorithms and systems for
efficiency-related computer technologies. Because of all of the expressed
factors and approaches, the Green Computing field is a remarkable and
important area that must be examined and evaluated.

Objective of the Book
This book will aim to improve interest and awareness of the Green Computing
field and associated approaches with this field. In this sense, the mission
of the book is to provide enough information on Green Computing and enable
people, who are interested in this subject area, to improve their knowledge
and application-based ability within the related context. More
specifically, the book will also aim to provide information about Green
Computing applications related to an approach called software deployment
and optimization. In more detail, the objective of the book in the related
context is to provide more emphasis on the mentioned approach and its
related applications designed and developed for Green Computing. In order
to provide some viewpoints and ideas on future directions, the book will
also include chapters related to future developments within Green
Computing—software deployment and optimization approaches.

Target Audience
At this point, because of software based applications, the target audience
will especially include people working on IT technologies, computer
engineering, and computer science. However, the scope of Green Computing
and the related approaches are also connected directly or indirectly with
almost all fields, so people who are interested in Green Computing and
'green' software deployment and optimization approaches are also included
within the target audience of the book. In this sense, the book will aid
the target audience to enable them to understand and learn the essentials
of Green Computing and its related approaches, improve their knowledge and
application-based abilities, and generate ideas about the importance of the
Green Computing. Furthermore, the book will also encourage the related
audience to design and develop 'green' software deployment and optimization
based works or applications for their works and the current literature.

Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Algorithmic efficiency and related approaches, applications.
* Resource allocation and related approaches, applications.
*    Virtualizing—platform virtualization—virtual machines and related
approaches, applications.
* Terminal servers and related approaches, applications.
* Alternative solutions on 'green' software deployment and optimization.
* Hybrid applications of current techniques related to 'green' software
deployment and optimization.
* Experiences and success stories on applications of 'green' software
deployment and optimization.
* Future ideas and potential applications—works related to 'green'
software deployment and optimization
