One of the leading scientific publishers, Springer, has a job opening for a computer science editor working from the office in Tokyo, Japan. The new position is supervised locally as well as integrated in Springer’s global computer science publishing activities and is available immediately.
Responsibilities
+  Supervise and actively develop the presently existing English-language international publication program in computer science out of Springer’s Tokyo office by using the proceedings publication line as a starting point, in close cooperation with a local Supervisor and the Vice-President Computer Science based in Germany.
+  The geographic region of responsibility is initially and primarily Japan, but will include Korea as well.
+  Coordinate and manage publication projects from acquisition to publication and post-publication follow-up interaction
+  Build up a tight author/editor/reviewer network among the Japanese/Korean and international R&D community in the field
+  Keep abreast of the latest developments in computer science
+  Help represent Springer’s overall computer science publication program at conference exhibits in Japan and Korea
+  Actively participate in internal cross-departmental cooperation, particularly with Marketing, Production, Sales and IT
+  Contribute to the overall strategic program development and expansion in close cooperation with superiors and colleague editors; participate in group meetings of the global computer science editorial team.
Requirements
+  Master degree, preferably PhD degree in computer science or a closely related field
+  Familiarity with the Japanese and international R&D community in computer science and neighboring interdisciplinary communities
+  Experience in scientific publishing, as an author/editor, ideally proven by own publications, or in
the publishing industry helpful
+  Excellent interpersonal communication and cooperation skills; Japanese as mother tongue and excellence, at least fluency, in written and spoken English
+  Highly motivated with a sense of self-discipline and entrepreneurial interests
+  High availability to work hard and travel, within Japan, to Korea, and internationally; flexibility, the right spirit and capability to work in a team
+  Competence in dealing with IT systems and projects
Job Title and Salary
+  The initial job title will be Associate Editor with a clear perspective towards promotion to Editor.
+   Payment will be comparable to the salary the successful applicant could receive at an early stage of an academic career or a compareable position in industry.
