Call for Minitrack Proposals
The AIS Special Interest Group on Philosophy in Information Systems invites the submission of minitrack proposals to the IS Philosophy (SIGPhilosophy) trackhttp://amcis2014.aisnet.org/index.php/track-list/77-amcis-2014/103

We invite the submission of minitrack proposals to the 20th Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS 2014), which will be held on August 7-10, 2014 Savannah, Georgia. AMCIS 2014 brings together academics and industry professionals around the world to exchange knowledge related to the AMCIS 2014 theme, Smart Sustainability, the Information Systems Opportunity. http://amcis2014.aisnet.org<http://amcis2014.aisnet.org/>

Track Description
The role of philosophy in Information Systems (IS) is to question fundamental problems about the nature of realities encountered in IS disciplines, how to define and identify the existence of taxonomies, knowledge, human and other values, reason and logic, and the definition and use of language. In the field of IS, philosophy relies on rational argument as much as it does on practical evidence and therefore philosophy uniquely enables the presentation of new theory and the verification or replacement of old. Philosophy covers a broad range of expression from epistemology (the nature and scope of knowledge) to logic (the study of the principles of correct reasoning), from moral and political philosophy and ethics to other applied philosophies.

The Philosophy in Information Systems track provides a forum for scholars who are open to questioning all aspects of Information Systems and seeking to find ways for the field to progress. We invite papers that discuss philosophical aspects of the IS field from all IS domains, and from all angles and levels of inquiry.

Contributions may deal with, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  * The philosophy of Information Systems
  * Transdisciplinary Wisdom in IS research
  * Socio-Technical Aspects of Information Systems
  *   People and Technology
  * Foundations of Information Systems Subfields
  *   People-centric computing
  * The philosophy of science and its applications
  * Critical Realism in Information Systems Research
  * Critical analyses of research methods and applications
  * Critical reflections on IS research and practice

Minitrack chairs
Minitrack chairs will be responsible for a) promoting their minitrack to generate manuscript submissions to AMCIS 2014; b) soliciting and assigning reviewers for manuscripts submitted to the minitrack; and c) making recommendations to track chairs about each manuscript submitted to the minitrack. Each of these important dates and activities are identified on the AMCIS 2014 website.

Those interested in submitting a minitrack need to identify a related track for their topic. The AMCIS 2014 program is comprised of several tracks. For a full list of tracks and descriptions, visit: http://amcis2014.aisnet.org/index.php/track-list
