The Advances in Medical Technologies and Clinical Practice (AMTCP) Book Series brings together the most recent research on the latest technology used in areas of nursing informatics, clinical technology, biomedicine, diagnostic technologies, and more. Researchers, students, and practitioners in this field will benefit from this fundamental coverage on the use of technology in clinical practices.

Introduction
Assistive technology, also known as rehabilitative, adaptive, augmentative, or alternative technology, has undergone a lot of developments as it addresses the concerns of the underprivileged community. Various technologies have been created and developed to assist the people with different types of impairments. The research on assistive technology plays an important role to advance the skills and knowledge of the community on various assistive technologies for their reference and adoption.


Objective of the Book
This book aims to gather the state-of-the-art of assistive technology related applications and cases worldwide on various people with physical and cognitive disabilities. It serves as a collection for researchers to publish their ongoing or completed investigations, developments, and findings.


Target Audience
The target audience of this book will be composed of professionals and researchers working in the field of assistive technology and ICT for healthcare. The community of university researchers, inclusive healthcare practitioners, parents with special needs children, caretakers of adults with impairments, special education teachers, operators of centers for elderly people, volunteers who serve the underprivileged people and individuals who are interested in investigating ICT for assistive technology are going to benefit from reading this book.

Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before November 30, 2013, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by December 15, 2013 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by February 28, 2014. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group Inc.), publisher of the "Information Science Reference" (formerly Idea Group Reference), "Medical Information Science Reference," "Business Science Reference," and "Engineering Science Reference" imprints.
