About St. Gallen
St. Gallen is located one hour north-east of Zuerich in the
German-speaking part of Switzerland. With a population of some 70’000,
from whom are 8000 students or University staff, St. Gallen is the center
of Eastern Switzerland. Nestled between Lake Constance and a mountain
range of up to 2500m, leisure opportunities abound year-round.
Required Background and Fields of Expertise
(1) As IWI-HSG is well-known to combine a strong problem / design-oriented
IS research orientation with complementary explanatory / conceptual
research components, successful applicants are expected to have
credentials in both paradigms. As IS research at a leading Business School
has a managerial rather than a technical perspective, successful
applicants will not have an implementation focus, but rather a management
/ design / use / value focus.
(2) Complementary fields of expertise include simulation studies in IS,
qualitative studies in IS adoption / use, or human computer interation –
from a non-technical, IS perspective. Successful applications should have
credentials also in one of these fields.
(3) While proficiency in English is required, German language skills would
be certainly helpful from an integration perspective.
